Pasquale "Pat" Bisceglia (June 23, 1930 - February 7, 2009) was an American football player. He was a first-team All-American guard at Notre Dame in 1955.
Bisceglia grew up in Worcester, Massachusetts, before enrolling at the University of Notre Dame. [1] He played college football at the guard and linebacker positions for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team from 1953 to 1955 under head coaches Frank Leahy and Terry Brennan. Bisceglia was selected by the Associated Press as a first-team guard on its 1955 College Football All-America Team. [2] [3]
After graduating from Notre Dame in 1956, Bisceglia played two seasons of professional football for the Montreal Alouettes. He later worked for approximately 35 years for the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Management, Division Forests and Parks. He retired in 1992 and died in 2009 in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. Ara Raoul Parseghian was an American football player and coach who guided the University of Notre Dame to national championships in 1966 and 1973. He is noted for bringing Notre Dame's Fighting Irish football program back from years of futility into national prominence in 1964 and is widely regarded alongside Knute Rockne and Frank Leahy as a part of the "Holy Trinity" of Notre Dame head coaches.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team is the intercollegiate football team representing the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana, north of the city of South Bend. The team plays its home games at the campus's Notre Dame Stadium, which has a capacity of 77,622. Notre Dame is one of seven schools that competes as an Independent at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) level; however, they play five games a year against opponents from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), of which Notre Dame is a member in all other sports except ice hockey. The Holy War is an American rivalry between the Boston College Eagles and University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish, a technical nonconference rivalry in College football, but in most sports an Atlantic Coast Conference rivalry. Brian Keith Kelly is an American football coach who is currently the head football coach at Louisiana State University (LSU). Kelly previously served as the head football coach at Grand Valley State University (1991–2003), Central Michigan University (2004–2006), the University of Cincinnati (2006–2009), and the University of Notre Dame (2010–2021). He led the Grand Valley State Lakers to consecutive NCAA Division II Football Championships in 2002 and 2003. The 2007 Navy vs. Notre Dame football game ended the longest all-time college football consecutive wins streak by one team over another. On November 3, 2007, the Navy Midshipmen defeated the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 46–44 in triple-overtime at Notre Dame's home field, Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana. Notre Dame came into this annual game with 43 straight wins against Navy since the last loss against Heisman Trophy winner Roger Staubach in 1963. With the win, Navy improved to 5–4 and Notre Dame fell to 1–8 on the season.
The 1947 Michigan Wolverines football team represented the University of Michigan in the 1947 Big Nine Conference football season. In its tenth year under head coach Fritz Crisler, Michigan compiled a perfect 10–0 record, won the Big Ten Conference championship, and defeated the USC Trojans by a score of 49–0 in the 1948 Rose Bowl game. Although ranked second in the AP Poll at the end of the regular season, the Wolverines were selected as the nation's No. 1 team by a 226–119 margin over Notre Dame in an unprecedented AP Poll taken after the bowl games. The 1947 team outscored its opponents, 394–53, and has been selected as the best team in the history of Michigan football.

Patrick J. Filley was an American football guard, coach and university administrator. He was a native of South Bend, Indiana, who played college football for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He was also a state champion wrestler at Central High School in South Bend. In his four years as a football player at Notre Dame, the Irish lost only five games. Filley was twice selected captain of the Notre Dame football team, including the 1943 national championship team. He was a consensus All-American at the guard position in 1943.

It was played annually since 1927, making it the longest uninterrupted intersectional rivalry in college football, and the third-longest uninterrupted college football rivalry overall, after only Minnesota vs. Wisconsin and Kansas State vs. Iowa State, as well as the second-longest never-interrupted rivalry in Division I college football (FBS), after only Kansas State vs. Iowa State.
