The Metropolitan Borough of Wirral is a metropolitan borough of Merseyside,in North West England. It has a population of 322,453 (2022),and encompasses 62 square miles (161 km2) of the northern part of the Wirral Peninsula. Major settlements include Birkenhead,Wallasey,Bebington,Heswall,Hoylake and West Kirby. Wirral is England's westernmost metropolitan borough,faced by the city of Liverpool to the northeast over the River Mersey.
Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council elections are held every four years from 2023 onwards,having previously been held three years out of every four for a third of the council at a time. Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council,generally known as Wirral Council,is the local authority for the metropolitan borough of Wirral in Merseyside,England.
David Burgess-Joyce was the Chief Officer of Merseyside Police Special Constabulary. He served from 1982 and was Head of Organisation Development for the Serious Organised Crime Agency from 2004 until he was either dismissed for gross misconduct in 2013 or retired in early 2014. Details of the alleged misconduct were not revealed,but were reported to have potentially involved improper expenses claims. He denied any such conduct,saying "I totally refute any allegations of untoward expenses claims on my part during my time working with the agency," and saying he had actually retired in early 2014 due to ill health.
The 2012 police and crime commissioner elections were polls held in most police areas in England and Wales on Thursday 15 November. The direct election of police and crime commissioners (PCCs) was originally scheduled for May 2012 but was postponed in order to secure the passage of the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011 through the House of Lords. The 2022 East Renfrewshire Council election took place on 5 May 2022 on the same day as the 31 other Scottish local government elections. The election used the 5 wards created under the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004,with 18 councillors being elected. Each ward elected either 3 or 4 members,using the STV electoral system.

Following a Boundary Review by The Local Government Boundary Commission for England,the size of the council was reduced from 90 to 85 seats with a change from three-member seats,elected in thirds,three years out of every four,following the British Government instigated Best Value Inspection Report which led to the appointment by the government of Commissioners and the subsequent boundary review for Council Wards in Liverpool which the government initiated with the proviso that the number of councillors be reduced and the predominant number of wards be reduced to single members with all-up elections every four years. The election also marked the end of Liverpool's directly-elected mayoralty. After the election the council reverted to having a leader of the council chosen from amongst the councillors instead. Labour retained control of the council and their group leader Liam Robinson became leader of the council after the election.
