Pat Sullivan (born March 20, 1971) is a Canadian former soccer player who played in the Canadian Soccer League, American Professional Soccer League, and the Canadian Professional Soccer League.

Playing career

Sullivan began his career in 1991, in the Canadian Soccer League with Nova Scotia Clippers. [1] [2] In 1992 he was a member of the North York Rockets. [3] [4] After the demise of the CSL he signed with the Toronto Rockets of the American Professional Soccer League. [3] He made his debut for the club on July 8, 1994 in a match against the Seattle Sounders. [5] In total he appeared in ten matches and recorded one goal for the club.

In 1999, Sullivan would sign with expansion franchise Oshawa Flames of the Canadian Professional Soccer League. [6] The following season he signed with the Glen Shields Sun Devils, and made his debut on May 31, 2000 in a match against Toronto Croatia. [7] He would help the Sun Devils finish fourth in the overall standings and clinch a playoff berth. In the quarterfinals the team faced London City, and advanced to the next round by winning a penalty shootout, where Sullivan successful converted a penalty kick. [8] In the semi-finals Glen Shields faced Toronto Olympians, but unfortunately lost the match by a score of 1-0. [9] In 2001, he returned to Oshawa, but failed to secure a postseason berth.

The 2002 Canadian Professional Soccer League season was the fifth season for the Canadian Professional Soccer League. The season began on May 23, 2002, and concluded on October 20, 2002, with Ottawa Wizards becoming the first expansion franchise to win the CPSL Championship by defeating the North York Astros 2–0. For the first time the final was hosted at Esther Shiner Stadium, which granted the hosts the North York Astros a wildcard match. As the league was divided into the Eastern and Western Conferences the Wizards clinched the Eastern title, while Toronto Croatia won the Western Conference. The expansion of the league saw the return of professional soccer to Hamilton, and the addition of another Toronto franchise. On February 26, 2002, the CPSL signed a player agreement deal with the Toronto Lynx of the USL A-League, which provided the Lynx access in order to use CPSL talent and provide players an opportunity to play at a higher level.

The 2000 Canadian Professional Soccer League season was the third season under the Canadian Professional Soccer League name. The season began on May 26, 2000 and concluded on October 1, 2000 with Toronto Croatia defeating Toronto Olympians 2-1 to claim their first CPSL Championship. The final was hosted at Cove Road Stadium for the first time. Throughout the season, all eight clubs from the previous year returned, while the Olympians secured their third straight regular season title. The league received sponsorship from Primus Canada, which granted Primus naming rights to the CPSL Championship, and Vincent Ursini was appointed the CPSL Chairman.

The 1999 Canadian Professional Soccer League season was the second season under the Canadian Professional Soccer League name. The season began on May 28, 1999, and concluded on October 2, 1999, with Toronto Olympians defeating Toronto Croatia 2-0 to claim their first CPSL Championship. The Olympians made history by becoming the first club in the league's history to achieve a treble. For the second straight season, they went undefeated for the entire season. The league also introduced their first All-Star match where the CPSL All-Stars faced the CSA Development team.

The 1998Canadian Professional Soccer League season was the inaugural season under the Canadian Professional Soccer League name. The season began on May 31, 1998, and concluded on October 14, 1998, with the St. Catharines Wolves defeating the Toronto Olympians in 4-2 victory in a penalty shootout to claim the first CPSL Championship held at Centennial Park Stadium in Toronto, Ontario. Though Toronto was denied the treble they still managed to go undefeated the entire regular season, and dominate the league with the best offensive and defensive record.
