Pat Ward (March 6, 1957) is an American Dirt Modified racing driver, currently credited with over 145 career wins at 17 tracks in New York, Pennsylvania, and Florida. [4]

Racing career

Pat Ward began his racing career in 1973 in a late model Mustang at Weedsport Speedway Since progressing to the Modified division, he has claimed track championships at Can-Am, Fulton, and Utica-Rome speedways in New York state. [4] [5] [6] [7] He has also competed and been victorious at the east coast race tracks from Florida to Canada, including Brewerton Speedway NY, Fonda Speedway NY, Selinsgrove Speedway PA, and the Syracuse Mile NY. Ward is also a respected fabricator and mechanic, having built his own cars and engines for much of his early career, and then joining manufacturer Howard Conkey's Show Car Engineering company in 1982. [4]

Pat Ward was inducted into the Northeast Dirt Modified Hall of Fame in 2021. [4]

Pete Corey was a driver of modified stock cars. One of the most popular drivers at Fonda Speedway NY, he claimed the track championship in 1957, 1965, and 1966, and had a total of 50 wins at the venue during his career. Singer Gordy Watson recorded a song about Corey called the Ballad of Number 3, which became a regional hit on country and western radio.

Kenny Shoemaker was an American dirt modified racing driver. Known as "The Shoe", he was a hired gun who piloted 78 different cars to over 150 wins, usually at venues within driving distance of his home because of his full time job.

Clarence "Butch" Jelley was an American dirt modified racing driver. Known for driving car number "Y" with a with a cartoon character devil painted on the side, and later car number "X" featuring a skunk mascot, he was always a favorite of the younger race fans.

Dave Lape was an American dirt modified racing driver, fabricator, and promoter. His cars always carried the number 22 adorned with 13-point flames as a tribute to his childhood mentor, car owner Bob Whitbeck and his driver Pete Corey.
