Patric Chiha (born 3 March 1975) is an Austrian film director, screenwriter and film editor of Hungarian and Lebanese origin. [2] [3] After directing several short films and documentaries, his first feature film, Domain (2009), premiered at the 2009 Venice Film Festival. [2] In 2014, he directed his second feature film, Boys Like Us. His documentaries Brothers of the Night (2016), and If It Were Love (2020) were both selected for the Berlin Film Festival. His third feature film, The Beast in the Jungle , was released in 2023.

Early life

Chiha was born in Vienna, Austria on 3 March 1975. [1] [2] He is of Hungarian and Lebanese origin, [2] and has lived in France since the age of 18. [4]

Chiha studied fashion design at ESAA Duperré in Paris and film editing at INSAS in Brussels. [2]

Career

After directing several short films and documentaries, his first feature film, Domain (2009), premiered at the 2009 Venice Film Festival. [2] In 2014, he directed his second feature film, Boys Like Us. His documentaries Brothers of the Night (2016), and If It Were Love (2020) were both selected for the Berlin Film Festival. [2] [5]

His third feature film, The Beast in the Jungle , premiered at the 2023 Berlin Film Festival. [6] [7]

The Beast in the Jungle is a 2023 drama film directed by Patric Chiha, from a screenplay by Chiha, Axelle Ropert and Jihane Chouaib, freely adapted from the 1903 novella of the same name by Henry James, and starring Anaïs Demoustier, Tom Mercier and Béatrice Dalle. The film is a co-production between France, Belgium and Austria. It made its world premiere in competition in the Panorama section of the 73rd Berlin Film Festival on 17 February 2023, and was released theatrically in France by Les Films du Losange on 16 August 2023.

<i>Saint Omer</i> (film) 2022 film by Alice Diop

Saint Omer is a 2022 French legal drama film directed by Alice Diop and starring Kayije Kagame and Guslagie Malanda. It is Diop's first narrative feature after working as a documentary filmmaker. In the film, Rama (Kagame) is a pregnant young novelist who attends the trial of Laurence Coly (Malanda), a Senegalese woman accused of murdering her 15-month-old child by leaving her on a beach to be swept away by the tide, in order to turn the tragic event into a literary retelling of Medea. It is based on the French court case of Fabienne Kabou, who was convicted of the same crime. Diop attended Kabou's trial in 2016.
