The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is the department of the Australian federal government responsible for foreign policy and relations,international aid,consular services and trade and investment. In 2021,DFAT allocated USD 3.4 billion of official development assistance,equivalent to 0.22% of gross national income.
The Ambassador of Australia to the Association of South East Asian Nations is an officer of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the head of the delegation of the Commonwealth of Australia to the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Jakarta,Indonesia. Australia has been in involved with ASEAN since 1974,when it became the first Dialogue Partner to ASEAN,with involvement in the East Asia Summit and the ASEAN Regional Forum.
The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Australia to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development is an officer of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the head of the delegation of the Commonwealth of Australia to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris,France. The position has the rank and status of an Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and has been sent since Australia,represented by Deputy Prime Minister Doug Anthony and Ambassador to France Alan Renouf,acceded to the OECD on 7 June 1971. The delegation to the OECD is based with the Australian Embassy in Paris and the Ambassador has resided in the Embassy since its opening in 1978.
The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Australia to the United Nations Office in Geneva is an officer of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the head of the delegation of the Commonwealth of Australia to the United Nations Office in Geneva,Switzerland,and also as Permanent Representative of Australia to the Conference on Disarmament.
The High Commissioner of Australia to Sri Lanka is an officer of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the head of the High Commission of the Commonwealth of Australia to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in Colombo. The High Commissioner has the rank and status of an Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and is currently David Holly,who also holds non-resident accreditation as Ambassador to the Maldives.
Diplomatic relations between Australia and Morocco were established in 1976. Morocco has had an embassy in Canberra since 2004 and the Australian Embassy in Rabat was established in May 2017,upgrading the existing Austrade office in Rabat. Previously the Australian Embassy in Paris was accredited to Morocco since 1978.
