Patrik Ervell is an American-born [1] menswear designer based in New York City. [2] Ervell is a graduate of University of California, Berkeley where he studied political science, economics and art history. [3]

Career

Ervell is known for his understated and intellectual approach to menswear. His designs are characterized as utilitarian, [4] minimal and elegant. [5] His collections featuring innovative materials, military details and futurist references have earned him a cult following. [6]

Ervell is noted for using innovative and unusual fabrics including gold foil, vintage parachutes, fabrics dyed with oxidized iron and copper, handmade rubber raincoats, horsehair, and splash-dyed silks. [7] [8] He also had an ongoing collaboration with interior design fabricators Maharam. [9]

His aesthetic has been described as Swedish understatement and practicality meets American sportswear peppered with the romantic futurism of science fiction. [10]

Patrik Ervell debuted in 2005 at the New York City concept store Opening Ceremony. Upon winning the Ecco Domani Award for Menswear in 2007 he debuted his collection in his first runway show. [11] Since then, Patrik has received nominations for the CFDA's Swarovski Award for Menswear in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Ervell was the runner up for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award in 2009. [12] In 2011 he was nominated for GQ's Best New Menswear Designer in America, [13] and the CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year. [14] Ervell showed his menswear collections twice yearly at New York Fashion Week, [15] showing in both presentation and runway show formats. After seasons of presentations, for his Fall Winter 2012 collection Ervell returned to the runway presentation. [16]

Ervell launched his online store in 2010, www.patrikervell.com. [17] Patrik Ervell was carried around the world at stores such as Barneys and Opening Ceremony. [18]

In 2017, Ervell closed his eponymous label. [19]

Shortly after, he traveled to London, England, where he collaborated with Rankin Studios in a fashion video entitled, "The Dancer" (2012). He was featured in Vogue Italia in the September issue of 2012, in which he was profiled as one of the 190 emerging designers worldwide. His 2015 collection, "Because the Internet," has been received with rave reviews worldwide. Recently, Raun Larose was sponsored by the CFDA, where he was given a platform for his first presentation in New York City during New York Fashion Week Men's for his namesake collection, for Fall 2017. Todd Snyder is an American fashion designer based in New York City. He founded his eponymous fashion label in 2011, and has been called "the most influential menswear designer of his generation" by GQ. The brand was acquired by American Eagle Outfitters in 2015.

Hood By Air is a high fashion brand based in New York City first launched in 2006 and active to the present day, with the exception of a hiatus between early 2017 – 2019. The brand was co-founded by designers, Shayne Oliver and Raul Lopez. The designer is Shayne Oliver, a former student at Fashion Institute of Technology and New York University who described his design aesthetic as "ghetto gothic" and banjee. Oliver was named among The 25 Greatest Black Fashion Designers by Complex. Oliver brought in the conceptual artist and filmmaker Leilah Weinraub as CEO and cofounder in 2012. Weinraub was openly skeptical of the brand's celebrity endorsements. The company was notable for refusing outside investment. In the past, Hood By Air, also known by the acronym HBA, has identified as a "luxury streetwear brand," a term coined by Oliver and now “synonymous with HBA's subversive use of logos, high-end production values and an ingenious online presence”.
