Patrizio Fimiani (born 3 January 1973 in Viterbo) is a retired Italian professional football player who played as a goalkeeper.

Career

Fimiani made his professional debut during the 1992–93 season with A.S. Roma, where he was the team's third-choice goalkeeper, after Giovanni Cervone and Giuseppe Zinetti. After the semi-final game of the Italian Cup against A.C. Milan, Cervone and Zinetti fought in the locker room. Both were disqualified for the finals and Fimiani had to play in both legs of the finals matchup against Torino F.C. Roma lost on away-goals rule (0–3 in Turin and 5–2 in Rome). [1] That was the highlight of his career as he never played on a level higher than third-tier Serie C1 after that season.

Associazione Sportiva Roma did not repeat its Coppa Italia victory from the previous season, but retained its status as the top team from the Capital with fifth in the league standings. Roma's main struggle was its inability to seal matches by a close margin, drawing on 14 occasions, and it neither had a watertight defence, nor a fearsome attack. Despite those shortcomings, Roma was only three points behind Torino for third.

Associazione Sportiva Roma lost its position as the dominant team in Rome, due to a mediocre season. New manager Vujadin Boškov had led Sampdoria to a domestic league title and European Cup final, but his only season in the capital was hampered by too many draws and struggles to be able to outplay the opposition. The end result was a tenth place, just three points clear of the drop zone, and Boškov left his job following the end of the season, when Roma also lost the Coppa Italia final to Torino.

Associazione Sportiva Roma won the Coppa Italia and reached the final of the UEFA Cup, which compensated for Ottavio Bianchi's problematic league season, where Roma finished a mere 9th place, their worst season since 1979.
