Paul Harrison (born 4 April 1969) is a BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars racing driver from Rotherham who races under number 2. Harrison is a former World Champion and one of the most recognisable figures in the sport.

Early life

Harrison was born on 4 April 1969 in Rotherham. His father, Willie Harrison, was a popular Formula 1 Stock Car racing driver. Harrison began to follow in his father’s footsteps when he raced competitively for the first time in 1977 in a Ministox, at the age of 8. The promoter allowed Harrison to race despite being aware that he was below the minimum age requirement. [1]

Racing career

Harrison began racing Formula 1 stock cars at the age of 16 in August 1985, using one of his father’s cars and racing as number 22. The first few years were spent developing his skills. Harrison attained the red roof of a star grade driver in 1988, and in 1989 he won his first meeting final at Owlerton Stadium in Sheffield.

In 1991, after his father’s retirement, Harrison inherited the number 2. In the same year his first major championship success came at Buxton Raceway, where he started the British Championship race from pole position and retained first place at the finish. [2] He won the same title for a second time in 1993.

More success followed when Harrison won the European Championship at Northampton International Raceway in both 1998 and 2003. However, the World Championship seemed to elude him. In the first 25 years of his racing career, he finished the World Final three times in second place, twice in third place, and three times in fourth place. [3]

Harrison finally lost the unwanted honour of being the best driver not to win the World Final in 2011 in his 23rd attempt. It was part of his best season in stock car racing, which also saw him win a World Championship Semi-Final and the British Championship for a third time. He won the British Championship a fourth time in 2014.

Stock car racing is a form of automobile racing found mainly and most prominently in the United States and Canada, with New Zealand, Australia, Mexico, Great Britain and Brazil also having forms of stock car auto racing. Traditionally, races are run on oval tracks measuring approximately 0.25 to 2.66 miles. The cars are unlimited horsepower with drivers using any engine they choose, with Chevrolet based small or big block V8 engines being the most popular. BriSCA F1 is the pinnacle of oval racing in the UK. The season runs from March through to November, with occasional meetings at Christmas.

Jamie Green British racing driver

Jamie Green is a British professional racing driver. He is currently employed by Audi Sport Team Rosberg in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) touring car championship, and will test for Trident Racing at the 2020 FIA Formula 2 Championship at the Bahrain post-Season tests.

John Lund is a BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars racing driver from Rimington, Lancashire who races under number 53. Lund is one of the most successful stock car drivers of all time and holds the current record for the most World Championship wins.

Aycliffe Stadium was a sports facility located in County Durham, England, on the southern edge of the Aycliffe Industrial Estate, which has Newton Aycliffe to the North and Aycliffe Village to the South. The stadium was originally used for greyhound racing and then speedway before stock car racing.

Brandon Stadium

Brandon Stadium also known as Coventry Stadium, is located 6 miles east of Coventry in Brandon, Warwickshire, England. It was the home of the Coventry Bees motorcycle speedway team. It also hosted BriSCA F1 Stock Car Racing on the 1st Saturday of the month from April through to November. From 1978 until early 2016 it intermittently hosted greyhound racing. As of recently, it has been closed down and dilapidated.

The World Championship is an annual competition started in 1955 for BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars. It is the premier championship of the formula and the winner is granted the honour of racing with a gold roof and wing until the next World Final, and if desired they can race under number 1.

The National Points Championship is a season-long competition for BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars. The winner is granted the honour of racing with a silver roof for the following season.

Paul Hines is a BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars racing driver from Hinckley, Leicestershire who races under number 259.

It currently hosts BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Car Racing, Banger racing, motorcycle speedway and is also a former greyhound racing track.

Raceway Venray

Raceway Venray, formerly known as Circuit de Peel, is a motorsport racing circuit in Venray, Netherlands. The track consists of a banked half mile oval with a flat quarter mile oval inside and features a karting track using portions of both along with dedicated sections. The track host its own local championships, national championships in cooperation with the Midland Circuit in Lelystad and Circuit de Polderputten in Ter Apel.

Barry Maessen

Barry Maessen is a Dutch racecar driver. Maessen is the son of BriSCA F1 racer, circuit developer and entrepreneur Harry Maessen. The Dutch driver will be the first Dutch racing driver in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series.
