Joseph Peter Ganim is an American Democratic politician,former attorney,and convicted felon who is currently serving as the mayor of Bridgeport,Connecticut. He was elected mayor of the city six times serving from 1991 to 2003,when he resigned after being convicted on federal felony corruption charges. In 2015,Ganim mounted a successful political comeback and was again elected Bridgeport mayor. Ganim was sworn in as mayor on December 1,2015. Ganim has twice unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination for governor of Connecticut,running in 1994 and 2018.
Ernest E. Newton is an American politician in Bridgeport,Connecticut. Newton served for seventeen years in the Connecticut General Assembly,serving in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1988 to 2003 and in the Connecticut State Senate from 2003 to 2006. He pleaded guilty to federal felony corruption charges in September 2005 and served several years in federal prison. Newton was released in February 2010 and in 2012 unsuccessfully attempted a political comeback,losing in the primary in a race for his old state Senate seat. In 2015,Newton was convicted on separate state campaign finance fraud charges;those convictions were overturned on appeal in 2018.
Corruption in Illinois has been a problem from the earliest history of the state. Electoral fraud in Illinois pre-dates the territory's admission to the Union in 1818. Illinois had the third most federal criminal convictions for public corruption between 1976 and 2012,behind New York and California. A study published by the University of Illinois Chicago in 2022 ranked Illinois as the second most corrupt state in the nation,with 4 out of the last 11 governors serving time in prison.

The Metropolitan District Commission of Connecticut (MDC) is a public non-profit municipal corporation chartered by the Connecticut General Assembly in 1929 to provide drinking water and sewer service to the Hartford area. The original agreement tied together the water systems of Hartford,Bloomfield,Newington,Wethersfield,and Windsor. The MDC currently serves eight towns in the Hartford area. The MDC is run by a 29-member board of commissioners;17 of which are appointed by the member towns,eight by the governor,and four by legislative leaders. The current Chairman of the MDC Board is William A. DiBella.
Lisa Wilson-Foley is an American entrepreneur,former political candidate,and white collar criminal. She owns the rehabilitation company Allstar Therapy,the family entertainment business Blue Fox Enterprises,and the medical testing company Swallowing Diagnostics. She was a co-owner of the Hartford FoxForce from 1999-2007.
Francisco Lopes Borges is an American politician and business executive who served as Connecticut State Treasurer from 1987 to 1993,succeeding Joan R. Kemler. A member of the Democratic Party,Borges was Connecticut's third Black state treasurer.
