Stuart Paul O'Neal [1] is an American politician who is a former member of the North Carolina House of Representatives,who represented the 6th District from 2022 to 2023. He previously served as a member of the Currituck County Board of Commissioners from 1994 to 2006 and again from 2008 to 2016. He was appointed to the state house to succeed Bobby Hanig who resigned to accept an appointment to the North Carolina Senate. [2] [3]

Tyrrell County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census,the population was 3,245,making it the least populous county in North Carolina. Its county seat is Columbia. The county was created in 1729 as Tyrrell Precinct and gained county status in 1739. Tyrrell County is included in the Kill Devil Hills,NC,Micropolitan Statistical Area,which is also included in the Virginia Beach-Norfolk,VA-NC Combined Statistical Area.
Currituck County is the northeastern most county in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census,the population was 28,100. Its county seat is Currituck. The county was formed in 1668 as a precinct of Albemarle County and later gained county status in 1739. The name is "traditionally said to be an indigenous word for wild geese;Coratank." Currituck County is included in the Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News,VA-NC Metropolitan Area. It is in the northeastern section of the state and is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean,Currituck Sound,Camden County,Dare County and the Commonwealth of Virginia. Currituck Court House,mentioned as early as 1755,was the name of the county seat. Today the words "Court House" have been dropped and only Currituck is used as the town name.
Verla Clemens Insko is a Democratic member of the North Carolina House of Representatives. Insko has represented the 56th district since 1997. She is a retired health program administrator from Chapel Hill,North Carolina. Insko also previously served as a member of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Board of Education from 1977 to 1985 and on the Orange County Board of Commissioners from 1990 to 1994. She has been noted for her progressive policy positions,such as her support for publicly funded universal health care,and stated in a candidate questionnaire,"I believe in an activist government that provides for the common good and protects the vulnerable". On September 15,2021 Insko announced that she wouldn't seek re-election to the NC House in 2022.
Walter Greene Church Sr. was a Democratic member of the North Carolina House of Representatives who represented the state's 86th district,including constituents in Burke County. A banker from Valdese,North Carolina,Church served seven terms in the state House. In November 2008,Church was narrowly defeated by Republican Hugh Blackwell,denying him an eighth term. His son,Walter G. Church,Jr.,won the May 4,2010 Democratic primary to run to regain his father's former seat,but lost in the Fall to State Rep. Hugh A. Blackwell-R. He died in 2012.

Prior to this pause,several candidates had already filed to run The elections will be held under new districts passed by the General Assembly in House Bill 976 to account for population changes following the 2020 census. The maps were later overturned by the North Carolina Supreme Court,who ordered the legislature to draw new maps. The North Carolina General Assembly later redrew the maps which were upheld by the Wake County Superior Court and the North Carolina Supreme Court. Candidate filing resumed on February 24,2022 and concluded on March 4,2022.
