Paula Frances Milone-Nuzzo is an American nurse. She has served as the president of the MGH Institute of Health Professions since 2017 after serving as Dean of Nursing at Pennsylvania State University.
Milone-Nuzzo was born to a policeman and educator. [1] She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Boston College before earning her Master of Science in Nursing and PhD from the University of Connecticut. [2]
Following her PhD,Milone-Nuzzo joined the faculty at Southern Connecticut State University for nine years before leaving to become a professor at the Yale School of Nursing. [2] Upon joining the faculty at Yale,Milone-Nuzzo developed the United States' first home care master's program and authored the Manual of Home Care Nursing Orientation. [3] She was also named president-elect of the Delta Mu Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau,the second-largest nursing organization in the world. [4] In 1998,as an associate professor,Milone-Nuzzo was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in recognition of her "outstanding contributions to the nursing profession through publication,research,professional activities and community service." [5] The following year,she became the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and was named a Fellow of Hospice and Home Care by Home Care University. [3] Beyond Yale,she also sat on the boards of Care Source and VNA Health Systems and was a member of the Healthy People 2010 Microgrant Advisory Board. [6]
Milone-Nuzzo left Yale in 2003 to become the associate dean of the Pennsylvania State University (PSU) College of Health and Human Development and director of the School of Nursing. [7] Upon accepting this role,she oversaw the restructuring of the School of Nursing to become its own independent academic unit in 2008. [8] Within its first five years,the School of Nursing was granted college status and she assumed the title as dean of the college. [9] In 2016,she received the Honorary Member Award from the Student Nurses’Association of Pennsylvania. [10] The following year,Milone-Nuzzo was elected president of the MGH Institute of Health Professions. [9]
Faye Glenn Abdellah was an American pioneer in nursing research. Abdellah was the first nurse and woman to serve as the Deputy Surgeon General of the United States. Preceding her appointment,she served in active duty during the Korean War,where she earned a distinguished ranking equivalent to a Navy Rear Admiral,making her the highest ranked woman and nurse in the Federal Nursing Services at the time. In addition to these achievements,Abdellah led the formation of the National Institute of Nursing Research at the NIH,and was the founder and first dean of the Graduate School of Nursing at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS). A few of Abdellah's more passionate interests in public health included the importance of long-term care planning for elderly patients;the need to strengthen nursing school infrastructure;and the necessity of patient-centered approaches in nursing. In 2000 Abdellah was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame. During her acceptance speech,Abdellah made the following quote:"We cannot wait for the world to change. .. Those of us with intelligence,purpose,and vision must take the lead and change the world. .. I promise never to rest until my work has been completed!”

Florence Wald was an American nurse,former Dean of Yale School of Nursing,and largely credited as "the mother of the American hospice movement". She led the founding of Connecticut Hospice,the first hospice program in the United States. Late in life,Wald became interested in the provision of hospice care within prisons. In 1998,Wald was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame.
Margretta (Gretta) Madden Styles,EdD,RN,FAAN was an American nurse,author,educator and nursing school dean who conceived and helped establish national standards for certifying nurses in pediatrics,cardiology and other medical specialties. Dr. Styles was the president of the American Nurses Association from 1986 to 1988,and wrote five books and many articles published in medical journals.

Ferguson held faculty appointments at several American universities. She was named a Living Legend of the American Academy of Nursing,was the second American named an honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Nursing in the United Kingdom and received several honorary doctorates.
Margaret Ruth McCorkle FAAN,FAPOS was an international leader and award-winning pioneer in oncology nursing. She was the Florence Schorske Wald Professor of Nursing at the Yale School of Nursing.
Ada Sue Hinshaw is an American nurse best known for her research on quality of care,patient outcomes,and positive nurse working environments. Hinshaw was designated as a Living Legend by the American Academy of Nursing in 2011.
