Paulo Gabriel Godinho Delgado (born December 28, 1951) is a Brazilian sociologist.

Delgado is one of the founders of the Workers' Party (Partido dos Trabalhadores - PT). He was a Professor of Social Sciences at Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora. In the 1980s he served as Secretary of Organization of the Workers' Party immediately following the party's creation. Later, in the 2000s, he was the party's Secretary of International Relations.

In 1987 he was elected to the 1987–1988 Constituent Assembly that wrote the current Brazilian Constitution. From 1987 to 2011 he had six elected terms as representative to the National Congress of Brazil for the State of Minas Gerais. [1]

While in the Brazilian National Congress he was, in different opportunities, the Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies Committee on Education and Culture, and Vice-Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies Committee on Foreign Relations and National Defense. [2]

His work as a congressperson was also marked by sponsoring the bill that promoted deinstitutionalization in Brazilian Psychiatric treatment, changing the focus of the treatment from systematic hospitalization to community and open services in Centers of Psychosocial Attention. [3]

Brazilian Communist Party

The Brazilian Communist Party, originally Communist Party of Brazil, is a political party in Brazil founded in 1922 which makes the disputed claim of being the oldest political party still active in the nation. It played an important role in the country's 20th-century history despite the relatively small number of members. A factional dispute led to the formation of PCdoB in the 1960s, though both communist parties were united in opposition to the Brazilian military government that ruled from 1964 to 1985. But with the fall of the Soviet Union and the collapse of communism circa 1990, the party lost power and international support. An internal coup in 1992 divided the party and formed a new party, called Socialist People's Party, using the former identification number of the PCB, 23. This party has since moved towards the centre and now goes by the name Cidadania.

Green Party (Brazil)

The Green Party is a political party in Brazil. It was constituted after the military dictatorship period and, like other green parties around the world, is committed to establishing a set of policies on ensuring social equity and sustainable development. One of the party's founding members was the journalist and former anti-dictatorship revolutionary Fernando Gabeira, Alfredo Sirkis and Carlos Minc. The founding of the Rio de Janeiro section of the Brazilian Green Party was led by a delegation from the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, composed among others by Olga Maria Carvalho Luz, Luiz Henrique Gevaerd Odebrecht, Marcos Bayer, and Consuelo Luz Lins.

National Congress of Brazil

The Democrats is a centre-right political party in Brazil. It was founded in 1985 under the name of Liberal Front Party from a dissidence of the defunct PDS, successor to the ARENA, the official party during the military dictatorship of 1964–1985. It changed to its current name in 2007. The original name reflected the party's support of free market policies, rather than the identification with international liberal parties. Instead, the party affiliated itself to the international federations of Christian-democratic (CDI) and conservative parties (IDU). The Democrats' identification number is 25 and its colors are green, blue, and white.

Paulo Paim Brazilian steelworker turned politician

Paulo Paim is a Brazilian steelworker turned politician. He served as a federal deputy from Rio Grande do Sul for the Workers' Party from 1987 to 2002. On 2002, he was elected Senator from the same state. Re-elected in 2010, he is currently the only Afro-Brazilian Senator. He also served as Vice-President of trade union center Central Única dos Trabalhadores (CUT) from 1984 to 1986.

2022 Brazilian general election
