Honorary Captain Vijay Kumar Sharma, AVSM, SM is an Indian sport shooter. He won the silver medal in the individual 25 metre rapid fire pistol event at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Kumar hails from Barsar village of Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh and is a retired Subedar Major in the Dogra Regiment Indian Army, who was later promoted to Honorary Captain Rank. Vijay Kumar is supported by the Olympic Gold Quest initiative. He is the only Indian to have won a medal at 25m rapid Fire Pistol. He has been posted at Indian Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) Mhow since 2003 where he is being coached by the Russian Pavel Smirnov.
Jin Jong-oh is a South Korean sports shooter who competed at the 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics. The only individual four-time Olympic champion in shooting, he is the most successful individual shooter at the Olympics, being the only athlete to have won three consecutive Olympic gold medals in an event in shooting. He holds the world record in both 10 metre air pistol and 50 metre pistol and held the final world record in 50 metre pistol until Jitu Rai broke it in 2017.

The event was won by Jin Jong-oh of South Korea, the second of his three consecutive victories in the free pistol. He was the first shooter to win two individual free pistol gold medals. It was his third medal in the event, making him the fourth man to earn three free pistol medals. His countryman Choi Young-rae took silver, the first time since 1976 that a nation had finished 1–2 in the event. Chinese shooter Wang Zhiwei received bronze.

At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he finished 4th in the qualifying round of the 10 metre air pistol, reaching the final with a score of 585. He finished 6th in the final round with a final score of 683.3. He also competed in the 50 m pistol, finishing in 22nd place.

At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he finished 35th in the qualifying round for the 10 metre air pistol, failing to make the cut for the final. However, in the men's 50 metre pistol, he won a silver medal, completing a Korean one-two.

At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he finished 36th in the qualifying round of the 10 metre air pistol competition, failing to make the cut for the final. He came 35th in the 50 metre pistol event.

Nikola Šaranović is a Montenegrin sport shooter who competes in the men's 10 metre air pistol and 50 metre pistol events. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he finished 41st in the qualifying round, failing to make the cut for the final. He finished last in the 50 metre pistol at the same Games.
The men's ISSF 50 meter pistol event at the 2016 Olympic Games took place on 10 August 2016 at the National Shooting Center. There were 41 competitors from 29 nations. The event was won by Jin Jong-oh of South Korea, his third consecutive victory in the free pistol. He was the only man to win two gold medals in the event, much less three. Jin was also the second man to win four medals of any color in the event, after Ragnar Skanåker of Sweden from 1972 to 1992. Hoàng Xuân Vinh took silver, the first medal for Vietnam in the event. Kim Song-guk's bronze was North Korea's first medal in the free pistol since 2004.
