Enugu, usually referred to as Enugu State to distinguish it from the city of Enugu, is a state in southeastern Nigeria, created in 1991 from part of the old Anambra State. Its capital and largest city is Enugu, from which the state derives its name. The principal cities in the state are Enugu, Nsukka, Agbani and Awgu.

Aninri is a Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the town of Ndeaboh. Aninri is made up of five towns, Oduma, Nenwe, Ndeaboh, Mpu and Okpanku. Oduma is the largest of the five with a population of approximately 60,000 inhabitants at the 2006 census. The local government area has produced notable people both in Enugu State and Nigeria at large, including former Speaker Enugu State house of Assembly Abel Chukwu, former Enugu state chairman of the People's Democratic Party Chief Onyioha Nwanjoku, deputy president of the Nigerian Senate Ike Ekweremmadu who has been DSP from 2007-2015 and 2015-to date. Aninri has a common boundary with Nkanu-East to the northeast.
