David Kennedy (born 1988), professionally known as Pearson Sound, is an electronic dance music producer, mix engineer and DJ based in London. His style is a combination of house, dubstep, UK funky, UK garage and oldschool jungle.

Career

Early in his career Kennedy released some music under the names Ramadanman (until 2010) [1] and Maurice Donovan. [2] He has worked under the Pearson Sound alias since 2008 and tracks under old and new names featured in his FabricLive.56 mix. He has released several acclaimed EPs and singles, including "Blanked", [3] "Deep Inside" and "Thaw Cycle". He has completed remixes for artists such as Radiohead, Depeche Mode, the XX, Disclosure and MIA, on labels including XL, Warner Brothers and Columbia. [4] He was voted by the public as one of Resident Advisor's top 100 DJs in the world in both 2010 and 2011. [5]

In 2007 he founded the record label Hessle Audio with Ben Thomson (Ben UFO) and Kevin McAuley (Pangaea). Since then, Hessle Audio have been featured regularly in major dance music publications, [6] [7] as well as touring across the world. [8] On their 15th anniversary in 2022 a cover feature in Crack magazine stated: "pound for pound, Hessle Audio are surely the most influential British club label of their generation". [9]

Kennedy released his debut self-titled album in 2015 on Hessle Audio. [10] The album was well received critically and scored 8.1 from the website Pitchfork. [11] His single "XLB" was voted as the second best track of 2016 by Resident Advisor. [12]

Kennedy makes regular appearances on BBC Radio 1 who describe him as a 'key figure in the [UK Bass] scene', [13] as well as co-hosting a regular show on London's Rinse FM. [14]

Aside from DJing, producing and mixing, Kennedy also ran for many years a vinyl-only club night called Acetate at the Leeds nightclub Wire, featuring guests such as Gilles Peterson and Four Tet, and he was a headline act at the club's final club night weekend before its closure in June 2024. [15]

Personal life

Kennedy was brought up in north London and studied at Highgate School [16] and the University of Leeds. His mother is the civil engineer Joanna Kennedy. He lives in south London. [9] [17]

O'Grady achieved underground success with his debut single "Hyph Mngo", released via Hotflush Recordings in September 2009. He is also known for his collaborations with Boddika.

Counties 4 Yorkshire is an English rugby union league at the tenth tier of the domestic competition for teams from Yorkshire. Paul Salva Jr., better known by his stage name Salva, is an American record producer based in Los Angeles, California. Known for his signature blend of Rap and Electronic music, Salva's remixes and bootlegs are some of the highest rotated amongst club and radio DJs worldwide. His remix of Kanye West's "Mercy" with RL Grime held the #1 most popular track on SoundCloud in June 2012, continuing to enjoy worldwide success and helping propel his artist career. Salva has since produced and collaborated with artists such as Young Thug, Future, Wiz Khalifa, E-40, DJ Shadow, Yuna, Boys Noize, has songwriting credit on the Grammy-nominated album Oxymoron by Schoolboy Q (TDE/Interscope) and music appearing in films such as the 2014 box office record-breaker Transformers: Age of Extinction.

Cadell Ramsey, better known by his stage name GHSTLY XXVII and formerly as Ghostly, is an English grime MC and producer from Acton, West London. He has appeared on BBC Radio 1Xtra, as well as pirate radio stations such as Deja Vu FM, Mode FM and Rinse FM.

Ben UFO, also known as Ben Thomson, is a DJ from London and co-founder of Hessle Audio. He started out on pirate radio station Sub FM and has had a radio show on Rinse and often DJs alongside co-founders David Kennedy Pearson Sound and Pangaea. He has curated mixes for BBC radio, Fabric (club), and Rinse FM and DJed at clubs and festival across the world. His BBC radio Essential Mix was shortlisted for mix of the year 2021.
