Pender County School District consists of 19 schools located in a diverse array of suburban and rural communities, and serves students in pre-school through grade 12. The Central Service Offices are located in Burgaw, North Carolina, about 21 miles from Wilmington, North Carolina. North Carolina Highway 210 is a 192-mile-long (309 km) primary state highway in the U.S. state of North Carolina that connects settlements in the Atlantic Coastal Plain region. Due to its meandering route NC 210 changes directional orientation twice, changing from east-west to north-south at Old Stage Road east of Angier, then changing from north-south to west-east at the Bladen–Pender county line. The route traverses through central Fayetteville and the Fort Liberty Army installation and crosses both Topsail Island access bridges over the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. Owing primarily to its meandering route, NC 210 is the sixth longest state highway in North Carolina.

Penderlea Homesteads Historic District is a national historic district located near Willard, Pender County, North Carolina. The district encompasses 186 contributing buildings, two contributing sites, and nine contributing structures in a rural section of Pender County. The district includes a collection of community buildings and houses constructed as part of the Penderlea Homesteads New Deal project. It includes 88 one-story, frame dwellings constructed as part of the original homestead project. Penderlea was the first experimental farm-city colony established by the United States government through the United States Department of the Interior’s Division of Subsistence Homesteads.
