Peninah Malonza, OGW (born 7 March 1974), is a Kenyan politician who served as the Cabinet Secretary for Ministry of EAC, Arid and Semi-Arid Lands and Regional Development, in the Cabinet of Kenya, and Ex Officio Member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) effective 5 October 2023 to July 11, 2024. [1] She was dismissed from the cabinet in July 2024. Prior to this appointment, from 27 September 2022 until 4 October 2023, she served as the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage, the President of the 13th Governing Council of the Parties to Lusaka Agreement Task Force (LATF) on Cooperative Enforcement Operations Directed at Illegal Trade in Wild Fauna and Flora as well as the Vice Chairperson of World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Regional Commission for Africa (CAF). She served as the first Deputy Governor of Kitui County, between 2013 and 2017, where as a member of the County Executive Management Team, she managed and coordinated the implementation of both County and National Government legislation. [3]
Malonza was born in Kitui County on 7 March 1974. After attending local primary and secondary schools, she was admitted to the University of Nairobi where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology. She followed that with Master's degree in Project Planning and Management, from the same university. As of November 2022, she was pursuing a Master of Public Health at the University of Nairobi. [3] She undertook a course in Economic Recovery Models at Kyungwon University, in South Korea. Later, she undertook a course in Community Leadership, at the Global University, in the United States. Malonza has a Diploma in Psychological counseling and is a Member of the Kenya Association of Professional Counsellors. [3]
From 2002 to 2006, she was Project Director at Changamwe Baptist Church. She later served in various roles at Compassion International Kenya, rising to the level of Partner Training and Support as Senior Director from 2006 to 2013. From 2013 to 2017, she served as Deputy governor of Kitui County under Governor Julius Malombe. Prior to joining politics she previously served as a Project Coordinator at AMREF Kenya. [4]
In 2022, she unsuccessfully contested for the women’s representative seat in Kitui County. She was nominated as the Cabinet Secretary Tourism, Wildlife, and Heritage by President Ruto. [4] The national assembly committee on appointments initially rejected her nomination as Tourism Cabinet Secretary, but was later on approved as the Cabinet secretary for Tourism, by the parliamentary plenary. [3] She was later dismissed by President William Ruto on July 2024.
In addition to being one of the 10 women chosen by President William Ruto, Ms. Malonza is one of only two ministers from the Ukambani region and the first Cabinet secretary to ever come from Kitui South since independence. [4]
In 2015, she was awarded the Order of Grand Warrior (OGW) award by President Uhuru Kenyatta. [3]
She was awarded the 2023 Africa Tourism Woman of the Year Award at the Africa Public Sector Conference and Awards (APSCA) having done a commendable work on policy in the tourism sector. [5]
Stephen Kalonzo Watermelon Musyoka is a Kenyan politician who was the tenth Vice-President of Kenya from 2008 to 2013. Musyoka served in the government under the late President Daniel arap Moi as the Secretary of Kenya African National Union party (1980-1988), Assistant Minister for Works (1986-1988), Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly (1988-1992), Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1993 until 1998, Minister of Education (1998-2001); and subsequently, under the late President Mwai Kibaki, he was Minister of Foreign Affairs again from 2003 to 2004, then Minister of the Environment from 2004 to 2005. He was an unsuccessful candidate in the 2007 presidential election, after which he was appointed vice-president by Kibaki in January 2008.

She also served as Cabinet Secretary for Land, Housing and Urban Development from 2013 until 2015.

Alfred Nganga Mutua is a Kenyan journalist and politician who was the Minister for Tourism and Wildlife. He formerly served as the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs under President William Ruto. Alfred was dismissed from the cabinet on July 2024.

Dr. Julius Makau Malombe,EGH is a Kenyan politician and the first and current elected Governor of Kitui County. He is elected on a Wiper Democratic Movement-Kenya (WDM-K) which he won the 2013 elections garnering 163,904 votes. He defended his seat on Wiper ticket in the 2017 general election but lost to Charity Ngilu coming third behind former senator David Musila however he recaptured the seat and won after the 9 August 2022 gubernatorial elections with 198,004 votes defeating former senator David Musila who had 114,606 votes and Jonathan with 10,639 votes. As the pioneer governor of Kitui he is credited with much of the development gains made in the region. On 12 December 2022 Dr. Malombe was awarded the Elder of The Golden Heart by President William Ruto.
Rebecca Wambui Miano is a Kenyan lawyer, currently a nominee for the position of Attorney General of Kenya, has served as the Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade & Industry since October 2023. She is a former Cabinet Secretary for East African Community, the ASALs and Regional Development.Before joining Cabinet, she served as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of KenGen Plc., the largest producer of electricity in the East African region from November 2017. She was confirmed on 1 November 2017, having served in acting capacity since August 2017.
Monica Kathina Juma is a Kenyan diplomat who currently serves as National Security Advisor to President William Ruto. She previously served as the Cabinet Secretary for Defence in the cabinet of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Geoffrey Rigathi Gachagua is a Kenyan politician who is serving as Deputy President of Kenya since 2022. He previously served as the Member of Parliament for Mathira Constituency between 2017 and 2022 as a member of the Jubilee Party. In the 2022 election, William Ruto selected Gachagua as his running mate, and the two were elected with just over 50% of the vote.
Roselinda Soipan Tuya is a Kenyan politician who served as Cabinet secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry. She was the first Maasai woman to be in the Cabinet of Kenya. She was dismissed on 11th July 2024, before being nominated for the position once again on 18th July 2024. However, she was later reassigned to the Defence docket awaiting confirmation by the National Assembly.
Eliud Owalo is a Kenyan politician who has served as Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication & Digital Economy in the Cabinet of Kenya since 2022. He was fired from office by the president of the republic of Kenya on 7th of July 2024.
