Penns Manor Area School District is located at 6001 Route 553 Highway Clymer, Pennsylvania. It also serves Cherryhill and Pine Townships.

History

Penns Manor Joint School District was formed in 1952 when the Clymer, Pine Township, and Cherryhill school districts came together. The current high school was built in 1960 and the former high schools were then used as elementary schools. When deciding on a name for the school, the suggestions included Pinemer and Penns Manor, among others. Penns Manor was chosen and the new high school was opened in the fall of 1960. In 1979, construction of the elementary school building was completed and it opened in the fall of 1980. The old high schools, then functioning as grade schools, were shut down and all elementary students came to the new building. In 1994, the high school completed a 6.9 million dollar renovation. The renovation of the elementary was completed in 2005.

Demographics

The Penns Manor Area School District serves approximately 900 students. The district covers 81 square miles. It has a dropout rate of 0.49%. Approximately 98% of the students are white (non-Hispanic), and approximately 1% are black or African-American. [2]

The community is a mix of Pittsburgh suburbia and rural areas.
The school system includes five elementary buildings, three middle schools, a high school, an alternative education school and an after-school alternative education program. The Central Westmoreland Career and Technology Center serves Hempfield students in the high school. Hempfield Area School District is made up of approximately 6,600 students in grades K-12, is served by a professional staff of 445, and an administrative staff of 20.

In 2013, enrollment was reported as 1,589 pupils in 9th through 12th grades, with 27% eligible for free lunches due to family poverty. Additionally, 17% received special education services, while 9.3% were identified as gifted. The school employed 112 teachers. Per the PA Department of Education, 3% of the teachers were rated "non‐highly qualified" under the federal No Child Left Behind Act.

Garnet Valley School District

Garnet Valley School District (GVSD) is a public school district based in Glen Mills, PA, within the Greater Philadelphia area. GVSD serves the town of Chester Heights, Bethel Township and Concord Township. Founded in 1959, it is one of the youngest school districts in Pennsylvania. Garnet Valley is one of the leading school districts, competing academically and athletically amongst the top decile schools in the state.
