Jan Fredrik "Freddy" Modin is a Swedish former professional ice hockey left winger who played 14 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL). He is best remembered for his most productive years with the Tampa Bay Lightning, with whom he won the Stanley Cup in 2004.

Johan "Moose" Hedberg is a Swedish former professional ice hockey goaltender. During a career that lasted from 1993 to 2014 he played for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Vancouver Canucks, Dallas Stars, Atlanta Thrashers, and New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League (NHL), as well as Leksands IF of the Swedish Elitserien, as well as several minor league teams. After several years in Sweden Hedberg moved to North America in 1997 and made his NHL debut in 2000. Internationally he played for the Swedish national team at several tournaments, including the 2002 Winter Olympics and several World Championships, winning gold at the 1998 World Championship.
Niclas Bergfors is a Swedish professional ice hockey right winger currently an unrestricted free agent. He most recently played for Djurgårdens IF then of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). He was drafted by the National Hockey League (NHL)'s New Jersey Devils in the first round, 23rd overall, at the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, playing for the organization for four-and-a-half seasons before joining the Atlanta Thrashers 2010, Florida Panthers in 2011 and Nashville Predators via free agency in 2011. He later joined the KHL's Ak Bars Kazan in late 2011 before signing with Severstal Cherepovets. In 2013, he joined Admiral Vladivostok, where he played for three seasons before joining Amur Khabarovsk in a mid-season trade.

Martin Procházka is a Czech former professional ice hockey player. Procházka was drafted 135th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft and played 32 games in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Maple Leafs and Atlanta Thrashers. In his NHL career, he scored two goals and five assists for seven points, collecting eight penalty minutes. He tallied an assist on the first goal in Atlanta Thrashers history, a 4–1 loss to the New Jersey Devils on October 2, 1999, his only point as a Thrasher. He has also had spells in Sweden's Elitserien for AIK Hockey and the Russian Super League (RSL) for Avangard Omsk and Khimik Voskresensk. He won a gold medal with the Czech Republic in the 1998 Winter Olympics.

The 2011–12 Winnipeg Jets season was the 13th season for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise and the first in Winnipeg, after 12 seasons as the Atlanta Thrashers. The franchise played in Atlanta since the 1999–2000 NHL season, and relocated to Winnipeg following the conclusion of the 2010–11 NHL season. The relocation of the Thrashers to Winnipeg was confirmed by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman on May 31, 2011, and approved by the NHL Board of Governors on June 21, 2011. The 2011–12 season also marks the first appearance of the Winnipeg Jets name in the NHL since the previous franchise moved from Winnipeg to Phoenix in 1996. At the end of the regular season, the team failed to qualify for the 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs.
