Perundurai is a Special Grade Town Panchayat in Erode district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Perundurai is the only special grade town panchayat among 42 in the district. Perundurai has developed as the industrial center with SIPCOT Industrial Estate and SEZ Complex. It is the Asia's Second largest SIPCOT.

Perundurai has been proposed to be developed as a Satellite Town for Erode, as per Erode Master Plan-1996. [2]

Geography

Perundurai is located on National Highway 544, connecting Salem with Cochin. It is located 18 kilometres from Erode Central Bus Terminus via Perundurai Road, and 36 kilometres from Tiruppur and 80 kilometres from Coimbatore and Salem and 32 kilometres from Kangayam, respectively.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, [3] Perundurai had a population of 16,973. Females constitute 50% of the population. Perundurai has an average literacy rate of 72%, higher than the national average of 59.5%. Male literacy is 80%, and female literacy is 65%. In Perundurai, 9% of the population is under 6 years.

Economy

Perundurai SIPCOT was established by Tamil Nadu in July, 2000, [4] on around 2000 acres. [5] The population increased in the neighbourhood because of textile industries relocating from Tirupur, Coimbatore and Erode Main to Perundurai. SIPCOT acquired another 1,600 acres (6.5 km2) in 2007. Parryware Roca started their manufacturing plant in 2006, their fourth in India. [6] IRTT medical college and hospital run by Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation is located there. The state government converted IRT medical college into the Government Erode Medical College and Hospital. [7]

The town hosts the Erode Rural DSP Office, Perundurai Police station, Court, and Subtreasury office. The town Panchayat Offices and Perundurai Taluk office are there. The weekly market operates on Sundays. The four theaters are Devichitra, Nallappas, Murugan, and Mahalakshmi.

Government Erode Medical College, formerly IRT Perundurai Medical College, is a government medical school in Erode, Tamil Nadu. It is affiliated to Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University. It is located off Salem-Kochi National Highway 544 near Perundurai in Erode. The school includes a hospital. The college was originally established under Institute of Road and Transport by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation.

Perundurai Road is one of the major arterial roads in the city of Erode in India. Running from the centre of the city towards the west, the road starts from Amma Flyover near Thanthai Periyar Government Hospital and terminates near the western suburb Perundurai. This 17 km road stretch further extends to the west connecting SIPCOT Industrial Park and joins NH 544 that enables the connectivity to Coimbatore and Kochi. The commercial and residential establishments along this road make it as the growth identifier of Erode, forecasting the development towards the west. The width of the road is making it four-lane to most of the stretch while a few km of the stretch near the western end has been widened to six-lane carriageway.

Kethureddipatti is a Village Panchayat in Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu, India. It is located at 30 km (19 mi) from Dharmapuri town. It comes under Pappireddipatti taluk and Kadathur Block. It belongs to Pappireddipatti State Legislative Assembly Constituency and Dharmapuri Loksabha Constituency. It consists of nine panchayat wards. As per the 2011 Census, the total population of this village is 4,808.
