Petal is an American rock band from Scranton, Pennsylvania, currently signed to Run for Cover Records. [1] The band consists of one permanent member, Kiley Lotz, (who is non-binary, [2] ) with the rest of the band a rotating group of musicians. [3] [4]
Petal began in September 2013 with the self-release of an extended play titled Scout. [5] The EP caught the attention of the record label Run For Cover, who signed them to their label three months later in December 2013. The EP was re-released after they signed to Run For Cover. [6]
On September 1, 2015, Petal released the song "Sooner" from their debut album, Shame. [7] Petal released their debut full-length album, Shame on October 23, 2015, via Run For Cover. [8] [9] On April 3, 2018, "Better Than You" was released as the first single from their second album, Magic Gone, which was released on June 15, 2018, [10] also via Run For Cover. [11]
Critical reception of Magic Gone was largely positive, with Stereogum saying,
"This might be inward-looking music, but the songs still zip. “Better Than You” and “Tightrope” remind me of alt rock radio in the very early ’90s, before the post-Nirvana boom turned everything into angst central. You could pogo to these songs just as easily as you could cry to them. It’s a funny thing, how the heaviness of the words and the lightness of the music can feed each other, how they can make each other stronger. It’s a dichotomy that makes Magic Gone — an album that’s utterly drowning in sadness in a lot of ways — into something warm and comforting and friendly: an album that might help you out and bring you up if you’re ever feeling something like what Lotz was feeling when she wrote these songs." [12]
In June and July 2018, Petal co-headlined a United States tour with Run for Cover label mates Camp Cope. [13] The band then went on a worldwide tour from January to March 2019, first in the United States with artists Sir Babygirl and Cave People, then in Europe and the UK supporting American musician Shakey Graves, and ending in Japan. The Hives are a Swedish rock band formed in Fagersta in 1993. After gaining traction in Sweden through the 1990s, they rose to worldwide prominence in the early 2000s during the garage rock revival. The band's line-up—consisting of Howlin' Pelle Almqvist (vocals), Nicholaus Arson, Vigilante Carlstroem, Dr. Matt Destruction (bass), and Chris Dangerous (drums)—remained unchanged from 1993 until 2013, when Matt Destruction retired for health reasons and was replaced by The Johan and Only.

The emo revival was an underground emo movement which began in the late 2000s and had declined by mid–to late 2010s. The movement began towards the end of the 2000s third wave of emo, with bands like Tigers Jaw, Algernon Cadwallader and Snowing who distanced themselves from the era's pop sensibilities and instead revived the sound of 1990s second wave emo. This coincided with the rise of bands, like Touché Amoré, La Dispute and Defeater, who too embraced the influence of 1990s emo, as well as screamo and post-hardcore.

A fifth, Calling the Dogs, was released in October 2023. Considered a part of emo's fourth wave, Pitchfork have described Citizen as "a band their fans can grow up with rather than out of."

The discography of Turnover, an American rock band, consists of five studio albums, four extended plays, six music videos and five appearances on compilation and split albums. The band was formed in 2009 in Virginia Beach, Virginia and released their eponymous extended play two years later on Broken Rim Records. This first project has been described as emo and pop punk. In 2012, the band signed to Run for Cover Records and put out a split with Citizen. The next year, Turnover released their debut album, Magnolia, on Run for Cover Records. Magnolia reached number 15 on the Top Heatseekers chart, but failed to chart on the Billboard 200. In 2014, the band released their second extended play, Blue Dream, on Broken Rim Records.

The duo released three additional albums, Thank You (2019), Love and Affection for Stupid Little Bitches (2019), and Peaceful as Hell (2020), before breaking up in 2020 in response to harassment received by McCallion.
