Peter Boyles (born October 17, 1943) [1] is a radio talk show personality. He had a long-running morning drive-time show in Denver, Colorado on 630 KHOW, until May 2013. Boyles began his radio career as a traffic reporter in the early 1970s, later becoming a disk jockey. He has worked at Denver radio stations KNUS KAAT, KLAK, KWBZ, KYBG, and KOA. [2] He retired in April 2022 from his morning program on AM 710 KNUS but returned to the station in September 2022 as host of a three-hour Saturday morning program. [3]

Talk shows

Boyles' morning show on KHOW was reported in 2010 to be Denver's number one-rated morning radio show, and again in 2011. [4] [5]

Boyles received national attention in 1997 for his investigation and nearly constant talk about the death of JonBenét Ramsey. [6] In August 2006 he received intense criticism for his belief that John Mark Karr was not involved in the murder of JonBenet Ramsey. Boyles was vindicated when "the most expensive DNA test in Colorado history" exonerated Karr. [7]

In February 2009, Boyles sparked controversy in Colorado for repeatedly referring to Democratic U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette of Denver as "Vagina DeGette" / "Vagina DeJet" while on air. [8]

Boyles is a defender of the "birtherism" allegation against former president Barack Obama. He claims, "Barack Obama's life story is a fabrication." [2]

In May 2013 Boyles was suspended from his KHOW show after a heated exchange with the show's longtime producer Greg Hollenback. Witnesses reported that Boyles yanked Hollenback's lanyard, [9] which left red marks on Hollenback's neck. [10] [11]

A Colorado Observer editorial expressed that "Boyles is an important figure in our local media and, short of some new and terrible development that no one is reporting, Boyles should keep his job." [12] On June 3, 2013, it was reported that Boyles had been fired. [13]

KNUS

Salem Communications hired Boyles as its new morning host on News/Talk 710 KNUS as of Monday, July 1 for a 6 AM-9 AM time slot. [14] When Boyles did not appear, there was speculation that his old employer KHOW had blocked his debut due to a non-compete contract clause. [15] On July 3, 2013, at 6:00 am, Boyles' show aired for the first time on 710 KNUS. [16] Beginning January 6, 2014, Boyles' show was extended by one hour, starting at 5:00 am and running until 9:00 am. [17]

KNUS had previously had weak audience ratings for its morning shows, especially compared to KHOW. But in his first month at KNUS, Boyles beat his former employer KHOW in audience ratings for the morning slot. [18]

JonBenét Patricia Ramsey was an American child beauty queen who was killed aged six in her family's home at 755 15th Street in Boulder, Colorado. A long handwritten ransom note was found in the home. Her father, John, found the girl's body in the basement of their house about seven hours after she had been reported missing. She had sustained a broken skull two and a half hours before her death due to asphyxiation; a garrote was found tied around her neck. The autopsy report stated that JonBenét's official cause of death was "asphyxia by strangulation associated with craniocerebral trauma". Her death was ruled a homicide. The case generated worldwide public and media interest, in part because her mother Patsy Ramsey, a former beauty queen, had entered JonBenét into a series of child beauty pageants. The crime is still considered a cold case and remains an open investigation with the Boulder Police Department.

John Bennett Ramsey is an American businessman, author, and father of JonBenét Ramsey.

KOA is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Denver, Colorado. Owned by iHeartMedia, it serves the Denver-Boulder media market. KOA has its radio studios in Southeast Denver, while the transmitter site is off South Parker Road in Parker.

Marvin Jay Cohen, better known by his broadcast name of Jay Marvin was a retired American liberal radio talk show host and writer. Former WLS-AM & FM talk show host Jay Marvin has died. That's according to his wife Mary. Posted on FACEBOOK Chicago's WLS Radio History Marvin began his radio career in 1971 as a country music DJ at KWMC in Del Rio, Texas. After that, he worked at various stations including WWOD Lynchburg, Virginia, K102 FM El Paso, Texas, WHBQ in Memphis, WJEZ and WJJD Chicago, Illinois, and KKAT Salt Lake City, Utah, and Top 40 station KIXZ in Amarillo, Texas. He switched to talk radio in the late 1980s starting at WTKN St. Petersburg, Florida and then moved to WFLA in Tampa. From there, he moved to WTMJ Milwaukee, Wisconsin, WLS Chicago (twice), and KHOW and KKZN in Denver, Colorado. He has also guest hosted nationally for Ed Schultz, Jerry Springer, and Alan Colmes.

Ken Loronzo Hamblin II, the self-titled Black Avenger, was host of the Ken Hamblin Show, which was syndicated nationally on Entertainment Radio Networks. His show peaked in the 1990s, but he left the air, without warning, in July 2003 due to a contractual dispute with his syndicator, the American Views Radio Network. Hamblin, based in Denver, Colorado, is the author of the books Pick a Better Country: An Unassuming Colored Guy Speaks His Mind about America and Plain Talk and Common Sense from the Black Avenger.

Steffan Tubbs is a radio host on Denver, Colorado's News/Talk 710 KNUS. He currently hosts The Steffan Tubbs Show on News/Talk 710 KNUS weekday afternoons from 3pMT - 7pMT M-F. He was the host of Colorado's Morning News and on 850 KOA having begun his radio career at the station in 1994. His voice was a continued presence during a six-year career with ABC News; he was a national radio anchor for the service on the evening of September 11, 2001. He returned to the Denver market after reporting and anchoring for WNYW Fox5-TV, the Fox affiliate in New York City.

Michael Tracey is a British-American academic and television producer with a specialty in public service broadcasting. He acquired notability as a result of his tenure as the head of the Broadcasting Research Unit in London, a British think tank dealing with media issues, and later with his investigative reporting on the death of JonBenét Ramsey. He is the author of The Decline and Fall of Public Service Broadcasting and the Production of Political Television. He is currently a professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Michael Peter Fallon is a Colorado physician who was the 2010 Republican nominee to represent Colorado's 1st congressional district.

Harry Paxton Mills was an American radio broadcaster and announcer. He was best known for his work at KLIF in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex in the 1960s and 1970s and at KIMN, KOSI, and KXKL-FM in Denver, Colorado from 1981 until his death in 2001.
