Peter Deakins is a British architect who, following an involvement in the design and construction of Golden Lane Estate as well as the original Barbican Centre designs, later created the master plan for the Lancaster West Estate in the mid-1960s, of which the Grenfell Tower was part. [1] [2]
Commenting on the Grenfell Tower fire in July 2017, Deakins said, "I really can't get to grips with it ... it's too terrible to think about. And compared to all the high hopes when we started doing it all... it's just too horrible." [1]
Trellick Tower is a Grade II* listed tower block on the Cheltenham Estate in Kensal Town, London. Opened in 1972, it had been commissioned by the Greater London Council and designed in the Brutalist style by architect Ernő Goldfinger. The tower was planned to replace outdated social accommodation, and designed as a follow up to Goldfinger's earlier Balfron Tower in East London. It was the last major project he worked on, and featured various space-saving designs, along with a separate access tower containing a plant room.
Ronan Point was a 22-storey tower block in Canning Town in Newham, East London, which partly collapsed on 16 May 1968, only two months after it had opened. A gas explosion blew out some load-bearing walls, causing the collapse of one entire corner of the building, which killed four people and injured 17. The spectacular nature of the failure, led to a loss of public confidence in high-rise residential buildings, and major changes in UK building regulations resulted.

Nicholas Paget-Brown is an English Conservative politician who was leader of the Kensington and Chelsea London Borough Council. He was first elected as a councillor for Hans Town on 8 May 1986. He became leader of the council on 23 May 2013. On 30 June 2017, he announced that he would step down as leader due to the council's response to the Grenfell Tower fire, and was replaced as leader by Conservative Elizabeth Campbell on 19 July 2017.
