Peter Fuzes (born 14 May 1947) is an Australian former association soccer player. Fuzes played as a goalkeeper, and represented the national Socceroos. [1]

Early life

Fuzes is Jewish. [1] [2] He emigrated to Australia in 1957 from Hungary as a refugee. [3] He attended Sydney University. [3]

Playing career

Club career

Fuzes began his senior club career for Hakoah in the New South Wales State League in 1965. He played for Hakoah until 1971. In 1972, he transferred to APIA Leichhardt. He stayed at APIA for two seasons before moving to Western Suburbs for the 1974 season. During the 1974 season he again transferred, this time to Canterbury. In 1975, he moved to St George. [4] [3]

International career

Fuzes played two matches for Australia against Scotland in 1967. [5] [6]

Hall of Fame

In 2003 he was inducted into the Maccabi NSW Hall of Fame. [7]

Maccabi Hakoah Sydney City East FC, commonly known as Maccabi Hakoah, is an Australian semi-professional soccer club based in Sydney, New South Wales. The club was formed in 1939 as Sydney Hakoah by members of Sydney's Jewish community. They played between 1977 and 1986 in the National Soccer League as Eastern Suburbs (1977–1979) and Sydney City (1979–1987). One of the most successful sides in New South Wales and interstate competitions in the 1960s and early 1970s coached by the now retired Bob Szatmari, Hakoah were also one of the main instigators for the establishment of a national league. The club currently competes in the National Premier Leagues NSW, with games played from Hensley Athletic Field.

Shiek Mordechai Synagogue, was a Sephardic Jewish congregation and synagogue, located in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. Up until 1924, Shiek Mordechai was a leading institution and center of communal Jewish life for Jews in Armenia.
