District enrollment has declined over the last 10 years and TUSD lost 1,700 to 2,000 students per year for the two or three years prior to 2012.

She was named as an Outstanding Indian Woman of 1977 by the North American Indian Women's Association,and served on the National Advisory Council on Indian Education from 1983 to 1990. In 1993,she was inducted into the Oklahoma Women's Hall of Fame for her work with foster children and the founding of the North American Indian Women's Association.
Mary V. Riley was an Apache tribal council member who was instrumental in the economic development of the White Mountain Apache Tribe. She was the first woman to be elected to serve on the tribal council and worked toward bringing timber and tourism industries to the reservation to ensure their economic stability. She was inducted into the Arizona Women's Hall of Fame posthumously in 1988.
Veronica Murdock is an American civil servant and of Shasta–Mohave ancestry,as a member of the Colorado River Indian Tribes.
