Thomas Stewart Udall is an American diplomat,lawyer and politician serving as the United States Ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa since 2021. A member of the Democratic Party,he served as a United States senator from New Mexico from 2009 to 2021. Udall also served as the U.S. representative for New Mexico's 3rd congressional district from 1999 to 2009 and New Mexico Attorney General from 1991 to 1999. Born in Tucson,Arizona,he is the son of former U.S. Representative Stewart Udall and the nephew of former U.S. Representative Mo Udall. A member of the Udall family,a western American political family,his relatives include Colorado's Mark Udall and Utah's Mike Lee. He was the dean of New Mexico's congressional delegation. Udall was first elected in the 2008 Senate race. He did not seek a third term in 2020,making him the only Democratic senator to retire that cycle. On July 16,2021,President Joe Biden nominated Udall to serve as United States Ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa.
Matthew James Salmon is an American politician who served as a U.S. representative from Arizona from 1995 to 2001 and again from 2013 until 2017. A member of the Republican Party,he retired from office after representing Arizona's 5th congressional district. The district is based in Mesa and includes most of the East Valley;he previously represented Arizona's 1st congressional district. In 2002,he lost by less than 1% to Janet Napolitano in a highly competitive gubernatorial race. He regained a congressional seat in the 2012 election.
Jonathan Paton is a former Arizona Republican candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in Arizona's 8th District and an intelligence officer in the U.S. Army Reserve who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Paton was first elected to southern Arizona's Legislative District 30 as a member of the Arizona House of Representatives in 2004. He won reelection and began his second term in February 2007. In 2008,he was elected to the Arizona Senate,again representing Legislative District 30. On January 17,2010,Paton announced he would be challenging Democratic U.S. Representative Gabby Giffords. Martha Elizabeth McSally is an American politician and former military pilot who served as a United States senator for Arizona from 2019 to 2020. A member of the Republican Party,she served as the U.S. representative for Arizona's 2nd congressional district from 2015 to 2019. McSally served in the United States Air Force from 1988 to 2010,achieving the rank of Colonel. She is the first U.S. woman to fly in combat and also the first to command a fighter squadron.
