Peter Richard Head CBE FREng is a civil and structural engineer. Since 2004, he led the global planning practice at Arup, UK. Currently, he is CEO of Ecological Sequestration Trust, based in London, UK. [1] [2]
Born in 1947, Peter was educated at the Imperial College London and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1969. [3]
In 1980, Peter joined Maunsell Group and later became its CEO in 2001. While there, he pioneered the use of composite materials for bridges. Later, Peter joined Arup UK in 2004, working on civil and structural engineering projects for Asia, Europe, North America and the Middle east. [4] While at Arup, he was involved in the Dongtan Eco-City urban work. [5]
Peter was elected to the Royal Academy of Engineering in 1996 and awarded the International Award of Merit in Structural Engineering by the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering in 1998. [6] He was honoured with an OBE in the 1998 New Year Honours. He received an Honorary Doctor of Engineering degree from the University of Bristol, UK in 2008. [7] In 2009, he was awarded the Sir Frank Whittle Medal by the Royal Academy of Engineering, UK. In the 2011 New Year Honours, Peter was elevated to CBE for services to civil engineering and the environment. [8]

He was one of the founding partners of Buro Happold and is a Royal Academy Visiting Professor of Engineering Design at Cambridge University School of Engineering. Jane Melville Wernick CBE FREng is a British structural engineer and a director of engineersHRW. Having founded Jane Wernick Associates in 1998, she gave the firm to an employee trust in 2010 and it was incorporated into engineersHRW in May 2015. Previously she worked at Arup (1976–1998). During her career with Arup, and later with Jane Wernick Associates, she was closely involved with projects including Stansted Airport terminal building and the London Eye.

In 2016 the Women's Engineering Society (WES), in collaboration with the Daily Telegraph, produced an inaugural list of the United Kingdom's Top 50 Influential Women in Engineering, which was published on National Women in Engineering Day on 23 June 2016. The event was so successful it became an annual celebration. The list was instigated by Dawn Bonfield MBE, then Chief Executive of the Women's Engineering Society. In 2019, WES ended its collaboration with the Daily Telegraph and started a new collaboration with The Guardian newspaper.

She has led in the structural design of multiple landmark buildings including the American Air Museum and the Tate Modern and holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Bath.
