Petra Bockle (born 14 May 1995) known professionally as Petra, is a rapper, singer and songwriter of Kenyan and Seychellois descent. [1] She performs in both Swahili and English, sometimes switching back and forth. [2] She cites 2Pac, Eminem, MC Lyte and Lil' Kim as her musical influences. [3]

Early life

Petra Bockle was born to a Kenyan mother and Seychellois father. Her father died in 2004, when Petra was nine years old, She then started becoming active with music around this time as a form of therapy. [4]

Career

Petra first appeared on the "Ligi Soo Remix" which featured her along with other Kenyan artists. [5] This includes: Kaka Sungura, Madtraxx, MwendaMchizi Jay A and Mejja among others. [6] She then disappeared from the music scene for a while. In 2018 she collaborated with Kenyan hip hop artist Khaligraph Jones on a song titled "Rider". [7] [8] In the music video for "Rider", which features Khaligraph Jones, Petra is seen eating raw meat, which was actual raw liver, caused controversy. [9]

A month later she was featured on another song titled "Khali Kartel Cypher". [2] Petra performed alongside Mr Eazi at the Hypefest concert during his Kenya tour. [10] Her latest single "i got that" features singer Victoria Kimani. [11]

Awards and nominations

In 2012, Petra won an award for best female artist at the Kenya Coast Music Awards. [18] Later on in 2015 she received an award for best female hip hop artist at the Pwani Celebrity Awards.

The album was supported by the singles "Basi", "Alivyonipenda", "Shujaa Wako", "DeJavu" and "Aiyolela". Brown had also collaborated with artists such as Sanaipei Tande, Okangasto, Barakah The Prince, King Kaka, Volvexzshawa among others.

Charles Bukeko was a Kenyan actor and comedian. He was known for portraying the titular character in the television series Papa Shirandula, which he also created and won the 2010 Kalasha Award for Best Actor in a TV Series. Bukeko also appeared in the 2012 film The Captain of Nakara. Bukeko died on July 18, 2020, from what seemed like COVID-19 symptoms. All of his comedy programmes were dominantly aired by the Kenyan Citizen Television, and none of his fan, both children and adults would dare to miss any of his series.
