Petros Shoujounian (born 1957) is an Armenian Canadian composer who focuses on orchestral, piano, chamber, and choral music. [1] [2] [3]
Petros Shoujounian was born in Gyumri (then Leninakan, Armenia in 1957. [2] At the age of twelve, Shoujounian began to compose his own music. He eventually studied music at the Yerevan State Komitas State Conservatory and continued his education at the Garu Mourza College of Music. [1] Shoujounian moved to Canada in 1976 and pursued studies at the Quebec Conservatory of Music under the famed Canadian composer Gilles Tremblay. [1] He gained his MA in composition in 1982. [2] Eventually he would direct the Armenian Choirs of Knar and Alemshah based in Montreal. [2] He is also a publisher of records of the works of Armenian composers. [1] Shoujounian has worked with numerous orchestras, such as I Musici de Montreal, NEM, Kitchener, London (Ontario) and Laval. He has also worked with soloists such as Marie-Josée Simard, Pierre Jasmin, Jean Laurendeau, and others. [1]
In 2001, for the 1700th anniversary of the Christianization of Armenia, Shoujounian performed three pieces of ancient Armenian liturgical music. [5] [6] The concert featured famed Canadian Armenian soprano Isabel Bayrakdarian.
His music was featured in the 1979 film L'Arrache-Coeur (English: Heart Break). [7]
In 1997 SNE Records (established 1978 [8] ) published a CD of the works of Shoujounian. The CD eventually received the Best Modern International Award by AMFA of Los Angeles in 1999. [2]

Toshi Ichiyanagi was a Japanese avant-garde composer and pianist. One of the leading composers in Japan during the postwar era, Ichiyanagi worked in a range of genres, composing Western-style operas and orchestral and chamber works, as well as compositions using traditional Japanese instruments. Ichiyanagi is known for incorporating avant-garde techniques into his works, such as chance music, extended technique, and nontraditional scoring. Ichiyanagi was married to artist Yoko Ono from 1956 to 1962.

Robert Comrie Turner, was a Canadian composer, radio producer, and music educator. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in music from McGill University in 1943. While there he studied with Douglas Clarke and Claude Champagne. He continued his studies briefly at Colorado College in 1947, where he met his wife, percussionist Sara Scott. They married in 1949. In 1947, Turner transferred to Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee, where he studied with Roy Harris. He graduated in 1950 with a master's degree. During this time, Turner spent two summers studying with Herbert Howells and Gordon Jacob at the Royal College of Music and one summer at the Berkshire Music Center at Tanglewood studying with Olivier Messiaen. He returned to McGill University in 1951, graduating with a doctorate two years later.
