Philip George Jeffreys Baker (born 1975) is a former Great Britain international rower.
Baker was educated at Abingdon School where he was captain of the Abingdon School Boat Club eights before moving on to Oxford Brookes University Boat Club. [1] He represented Great Britain at the 1999 World Rowing Championships winning a silver medal in the Lightweight Men's Eights. The following year Baker repeated the feat in the 2000 World Rowing Championships winning a silver medal again in the Lightweight Men's Eights. [2] In addition to the world championship silver in 2000 he also won a silver medal at the 2000 World Rowing Cup in the Lightweight Men's Pair.
Daniel "Dan" Topolski was a British author, rower, rowing coach and commentator on BBC television. He studied at the University of Oxford where he represented the Blue boat twice, in 1967 and 1968. In 1977, he won a gold medal at the World Rowing Championships. He coached the Oxford University Boat Club crew on fifteen occasions, leading them to victory twelve times, including a ten-win streak. He also coached British squads at two separate Olympic Games. After retiring from coaching he commentated on rowing at the Olympic Games and Boat Races.
The Adelaide University Boat Club is a rowing club affiliated with the University of Adelaide. The club was founded in 1881, and in 1896 helped to form the Adelaide University Sports Association. The main clubrooms, donated by Robert Barr Smith in 1909, are located on the north bank of the River Torrens on War Memorial Drive, adjacent to the Adelaide University Sports Grounds. The shed has two boat bays, a gym and weights room and a small bar. The club also leases a secondary boatshed at the South Australian Rowing Association complex on Military Road at West Lakes, and also trains regularly at Port Adelaide's North Arm Creek and Murray Bridge. Members have included rowers of all levels, from total beginners to Olympic Gold Medallists. The club shares the nickname "The Blacks" with the Adelaide University Football Club.
