Philip Lester Bartlett II (born September 24,1976) is an American lawyer and politician from Maine. A Democrat,he served in the Maine Senate from 2004 to 2012,representing the 6th district (Scarborough,Westbrook and his hometown of Gorham). In November 2014,Bartlett was elected Chairman of the Maine Democratic Party. [1]
Raised in Gorham,Bartlett attended Gorham public schools,graduating from Gorham High School in 1994. He was an active boy scout throughout his youth,attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. On leaving high school,he went to Tufts University,majoring in economics and political science. Following Tufts,he attended Harvard Law School,where he earned a J.D. and served as president of the Harvard Journal on Legislation. [2]
Admitted to practice law in Maine and Massachusetts,he spent the year following his law school graduation clerking for Leigh Saufley,chief justice of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court. [2] He is today a lawyer specializing in workers' compensation with the firm of Scaccia,Lenkowski,Aranson &Bartlett in Sanford,Maine. [3]
In 2004,at the age of 28,Bartlett ran for the Maine Senate in the 6th district. He won the Democratic primary election held on June 8,2004,taking 59% of the vote against Gorham resident Edward Needham. [4] In the general election held on November 2,he faced incumbent Sen. Carolyn Gilman,a Republican from Westbrook,defeating her by 53% to 47% –a margin of 1,168 votes. [5] He won re-election in 2006,2008 and 2010.
Bartlett served as senate majority leader in the 124th Legislature (2009–10),losing the position following the 2010 election that saw Republicans take back the senate majority. Term limits prevented him from seeking a fifth term in 2012.
Bartlett was elected to a four-year term on the Democratic National Committee at the Maine Democratic Party Convention on June 2,2012. [6]
Bartlett has been involved in numerous civic associations,serving as president of the Gorham Historical Society and the Baxter Memorial Library Association. He has also served on the boards of the Presumpscot Regional Land Trust,the Gorham Economic Development Corporation,the Gorham Recreation Advisory Board and the Cumberland County Human Services Advisory Committee. He attends the First Parish Congregational Church in Gorham. [2]

Matthew Dunlap is an American politician from Maine who has served as the Maine State Auditor since November,2022,and previously from January to October,2021. A Democrat,Dunlap served as Secretary of State of Maine from January 7,2013,to January 4,2021,and previously served in that same post from 2005 to 2011. In 2012,he sought to become his party's nominee to replace retiring Olympia Snowe,but lost in the primary to State Senator Cynthia Dill. Prior to his first election as secretary of state in 2005,he represented Old Town in the Maine House of Representatives for four terms beginning in 1996. On December 2,2020,Dunlap was elected Maine State Auditor by the Maine Legislature and took office on January 4,2021. Dunlap had to vacate the position after failing the exams needed to meet the requirements of the position the following October,and was replaced by Jacob Norton. He did later meet the requirements and was selected for the position again on November 14,2022.
Lawrence Steven Bliss is an American educator and former politician from the state of Maine. A Democrat,he served in the Maine House of Representatives (2000–2008) and the Maine Senate (2008–2011). He resigned as a senator on April 15,2011 after accepting a position as an administrator at California State University,East Bay,and leaving the state of Maine.

Justin Loring Alfond is an American politician and real estate developer. He served as a Democratic State Senator from the 8th District,which represents much of Portland. Charles P. Pray is an American politician from Maine. Pray was born in the paper mill town of Millinocket,Maine on August 15,1945. He grew up in northern Piscataquis County,Maine attending a one-room schoolhouse from 1954-1959. He attended Maine Central Institute,graduating from Stearns High School in his birthplace of Millinocket in 1964. He then attended Ricker College in Houlton. In 1966,he enlisted with the US Air Force and served in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. Finishing with the Air Force in 1970,he returned to Maine and enrolled at the University of Maine,from which he graduated in 1973 with a B.A. in political science. In 1974,he was elected to the Maine Senate to represent Piscataquis County and the northern area of Penobscot County,which was the largest legislative district east of the Mississippi River. From 1978-1982,Pray served as Assistant Majority Leader of the Maine Senate. From 1982-1984,Pray served as Majority Leader. In 1984,Pray was elected by his peers as President of the Maine Senate,a position he held until a surprise defeat in 1992. He is one of two individuals to serve four terms but is the only Senate President in Maine history to hold the office for 8 full years.
