Phil Young is an Australian former rugby league footballer who played for Canterbury-Bankstown and the Newtown Jets in the New South Wales Rugby League premiership competition. [1]

Young was born in Canterbury, New South Wales, Australia.

Playing career

Young played a total of 61 first grade games for Canterbury. He missed out on playing in the 1974 NSWRL grand final against Eastern Suburbs. In 1977, Young switched to the struggling Newtown side and made 16 appearances as they finished with the Wooden Spoon. [2]

He captained his country in one Test in 1946 and was the first Canterbury-Bankstown player to do so.

Henry "Tarzan" Porter (1910–1990) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1930s and 1940s. He played club football for Newtown and Canterbury-Bankstown in the New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership, winning premierships with both clubs. He also played for Fortitude Valley in the Brisbane Rugby League premiership.

Eight teams from across the city contested the premiership during the season, which lasted from April until August, culminating in Eastern Suburbs’ victory over Canterbury-Bankstown in the final.

Phil Sigsworth, is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer. He played primarily in the fullback position. Sigsworth attended Newtown Boys' Junior High School where he played Rugby Union for the school. His junior Rugby League playing days were with the Erskineville Juniors club and then the infamous Newtown Hawks from where he was graded into the district club, Newtown District Rugby League Football Club.

Tom Kirk (1916–1994) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1930s and 1940s. A New South Wales state representative goal-kicking fullback, he played in Sydney's NSWRFL for the Canterbury-Bankstown and Newtown clubs as well as with North Sydney. He was the first player to become the season's top point scorer on 5 occasions: 1938, 1940, 1943, 1944, 1946. In 1947 he became the first player to score 1,000 career points in the NSWRFL.

Graham Wilson (1939–2005) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1960s and 1970s. He played in the New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership for Newtown club and later Cronulla-Sutherland, also achieving state and international representative honours. He is also the father of former North Sydney Bears player Craig Wilson, and Cronulla-Sutherland player Alan Wilson.
