Philemon Malima (born 9 July 1946) is a Namibian politician and diplomat who was the chief of intelligence service of Namibia Central Intelligence Service from 2015 to 2020. Malima has been a member of the Cabinet of Namibia since March 1990 and has served as minister responsible for various ministries since independence.
Malima was born in Omandongo in Oshikoto Region. He obtained political and military training in the USSR in the early 1980s,at the Institute of Political Science,and at Simferopol. He worked as a political educator,military officer and diplomat of SWAPO,as well as its representative to the Soviet Union between 1987 and 1989. [1]
Upon Independence of Namibia in 1990 he became a member of the National Assembly of Namibia and deputy Minister of Defence. In 1995 he was promoted to minister,and in 1997 he was moved to the Ministry of Environment and Tourism. He served until 2005. [1]
Malima was appointed director-general of Namibia Central Intelligence Service in May 2015. [2] [3] [4]
Politics of Namibia takes place in a framework of a semi-presidential representative democratic republic,whereby the President of Namibia is both head of state and head of government,and of a pluriform multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by both the president and the government. Legislative power is vested in the two chambers of Parliament. The judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature.
The Namibian Defence Force (NDF) comprises the national military forces of Namibia. It was created when the country,then known as South West Africa,gained independence from South Africa in 1990. Chapter 15 of the Constitution of Namibia establishes the NDF and defines its role and purpose as," ... to defend the territory and national interests of Namibia".
Theo-Ben Gurirab was a Namibian politician who served in various senior government positions. He served as the second Prime Minister of Namibia from 28 August 2002 to 20 March 2005,following the demotion and subsequent resignation of Hage Geingob. Previously he was the country's first Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1990 to 2002,and was President of the United Nations General Assembly from 1999 to 2000. He was Speaker of the National Assembly of Namibia from 2005 to 2015,when he was replaced by Peter Katjavivi. Gurirab ultimately resigned from politics in 2015.
Hidipo Livius Hamutenya was a Namibian politician. A long time leading member of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO),Hamutenya was a member of the Cabinet of Namibia from independence in 1990 to 2004,serving in several important ministerial portfolios. He was defeated in a bid for the party's presidential nomination in 2004 and left SWAPO to form an opposition group,the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP),in 2007. He was elected to the National Assembly of Namibia with RDP in the 2009 general election. He was forced to step down as RDP president on 28 February 2015 and rejoined SWAPO on 28 August 2015.
Hage Gottfried Geingob is a Namibian politician,serving as the third president of Namibia since 21 March 2015. Geingob was the first Prime Minister of Namibia from 1990 to 2002,and served as prime minister again from 2012 to 2015. Between 2008 and 2012 Geingob served as Minister of Trade and Industry. He is also the current president of the ruling SWAPO Party since his election to the position in November 2017.
Jerry Lukiiko Ekandjo is a Namibian politician,former anti-apartheid activist and political prisoner. He is one of the founding members of the SWAPO Youth League and has been one of the most active internal leading members of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO) during the liberation struggle. He spent eight years in prison on Robben Island after being charged for inciting violence in 1973. Ekandjo has been a member of the Cabinet of Namibia from independence in 1990 until 2018,serving the SWAPO government in various ministerial positions. His last appointment was Minister of Youth and Sport since 2012,from which he was recalled in early 2018. Previously he was Deputy Minister of Local Government and Housing from 1990 to 1995,Minister of Home Affairs from 1995 to 2005,Minister of Lands and Resettlement from 2005 to 2008,and Minister of Regional and Local Government,Housing and Rural Development from 2008 to 2012.
Ngarikutuke Ernest Tjiriange was a Namibian politician,a member of the National Assembly and former secretary-general of the ruling SWAPO Party. He also served in the Namibian cabinet from 1990 to 2010,first as Minister of Justice,then without portfolio,and then as Minister of Veteran Affairs.
Utoni Daniel Nujoma is a Namibian politician who serves as Minister of Labour,Industrial Relations and Employment Creation since March 2020. He has served in various government ministerial positions in the government since 2010.
The Heroes' Acre is an official war memorial of the Republic of Namibia. Built into the uninhabited hills 10 kilometres (6 mi) south of the city centre of Windhoek,Heroes' Acre opened on 26 August 2002. The Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA) is the government department responsible for the administration of military affairs and veterans affairs in Namibia. It was established as Ministry of Defence (MOD) at Namibian independence in 1990. In 2020 the portfolio of veteran affairs was added to defence after the Ministry of Veteran Affairs had been dissolved in 2015. The first Namibian defence minister was Peter Mweshihange,the current Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs is Frans Kapofi.

Peter Hafeni Vilho is a Namibian politician and retired rear admiral who is a member of the Parliament of Namibia,a former Minister of Defence,and a former commander of the Namibian Navy. He was appointed the commander of the maritime wing of the Namibian Defence Force in 2002. In September 2017 he was appointed as executive director of the Ministry of Defence. In March 2020,Namibian president Hage Geingob appointed Vilho as the Minister of Defense and Veteran Affairs. Vilho served until his resignation in April 2021 after allegations of holding an undeclared bank account.
