International Commissioner of the Vlaams Verbond der Katholieke Scouts

Philip Alphonse Tossijn[ needs IPA ] was a senior member of Flemish Catholic Scouting, who served as the International Commissioner of the Vlaams Verbond der Katholieke Scouts (VVKS), as well as a member of the World Scout Committee. Between 1977 and 1979, he was President of the World Committee of the International Scout and Guide Fellowship. He also wrote several works on Scoutcraft and knotwork in Dutch.

Flemish variety of the Dutch language as spoken in Flanders (Belgium)

Flemish (Vlaams) also called Flemish Dutch (Vlaams-Nederlands), Belgian Dutch, or Southern Dutch (Zuid-Nederlands), is a Lower Franconian / Dutch dialect. It is spoken in the whole northern region of Belgium as well as French Flanders and the Dutch Zeelandic Flanders by approximately 6.5 million people. The term is used in at least five ways. These are:

  1. An indication of Dutch written and spoken in Flanders including the Dutch standard language as well as the non-standardized dialects, including intermediate forms between vernacular dialects and the standard. Some linguists avoid the term Flemish in this context and prefer the designation Belgian-Dutch or South-Dutch
  2. A synonym for the so-called intermediate language in Flanders region, the Tussentaal
  3. An indication of the non-standardized dialects and regiolects of Flanders region
  4. An indication of the non-standardized dialects of only the former County of Flanders, ie the current provinces of West Flanders and East Flanders, Zeelandic Flanders and Frans-Vlaanderen
  5. An indication of the non-standardized West Flemish dialects of the province of West Flanders, the Dutch Zeelandic Flanders and French Frans-Vlaanderen
Scouts en Gidsen Vlaanderen

Scouts en Gidsen Vlaanderen is a coeducational, Flemish Scout and Guide organisation in Belgium and is a member of the Guidisme et Scoutisme en Belgique/Gidsen- en Scoutsbeweging in België.

In 1967, Tossijn was awarded the 49th Bronze Wolf , the only distinction of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, awarded by the World Scout Committee for exceptional services to world Scouting, at the 21st World Scout Conference. [1] The only Belgian to have received this decoration, his medal is exhibited at the Scout museum in Leuven.

The World Organization of the Scout Movement is the largest international Scouting organization. WOSM has 170 members. These members are recognized national Scout organizations, which collectively have over 50 million participants. WOSM was established in 1922, and has its operational headquarters at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and its legal seat in Geneva, Switzerland. It is the counterpart of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).

Leuven or Louvain is the capital of the province of Flemish Brabant in Belgium. It is located about 25 kilometres east of Brussels. The municipality itself comprises the historic city and the former neighbouring municipalities of Heverlee, Kessel-Lo, a part of Korbeek-Lo, Wilsele and Wijgmaal. It is the eighth largest city in Belgium and the fourth in Flanders with more than 100,244 inhabitants.

Since the award's creation in 1935, fewer than 400 of the several millions of Scouts throughout the world have received the award.

Ali al-Dandachi Scouting leader

Ali Abdulkarim al-Dandachi was a Syrian who served as the vice president of the Boy Scouts de Syrie. Dandachi also served on the International Committee of the World Organization of the Scout Movement from 1951 to 1957. Dandachi had done a great deal to encourage Scouting throughout the Middle East, and during his term as a member of the International Committee, he visited practically every country in the region, leading to the establishment of an Arab Scout Bureau.

Salomon Tandeng Muna was a Cameroonian politician of the Cameroonian National Union. He served as the first Prime Minister of the federated state of West Cameroon from January 11, 1968 to June 2, 1972. Additionally, he served as Vice President of the Federal Republic of Cameroon from 1970 to 1972. He was President of the National Assembly of Cameroon from 1973 to 1988.

João Armando Gonçalves Portuguese Scouting leader

João Armando Pereira Gonçalves, ComIH of Figueira da Foz, Portugal was the Chairperson of the World Scout Committee, the main executive body of the World Organization of the Scout Movement. He was a member of the European Scout Committee for a period of six years, elected in 2004 and again in 2007, and was elected to the World Scout Committee at the 39th World Scout Conference in Brazil in January 2011. He was re-elected to the committee at the 40th World Scout Conference in Ljubljana, Slovenia in 2014.

Yoritake Matsudaira

Yoritake Matsudaira present Chairman of Hongō Gakuen, served as the International Commissioner and member of the Board of Directors of the Scout Association of Japan, as well as a member of the Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Committee and a founding member of the World Buddhist Scout Brotherhood. Matsudaira retired from the post of International Commissioner on reaching the retirement age of 65 in 2003, and presently serves as President (Renmei-chō) of the Kagawa Scout Council.

Takemichi Toby Suzuki, a former elected member of the World Scout Committee from 1999 to 2005, served as the former Chairman of the Information and Communications Technology subcommittee of the Asia-Pacific Region of the World Organization of the Scout Movement from 1995 to 1998, former member of the National Executive Council and the National Board of the Scout Association of Japan from 1993 to 2007.

Kō Yoshida

Kō Yoshida served as a member of the World Scout Committee, the International Commissioner of the Boy Scouts of Nippon, and as a member of the board of the World Scout Foundation.
