Philip Monthy (born 4 May 1975) is a Seychellois teacher and politician currently serving as a directly elected member of the 7th National Assembly of Seychelles from Cascade constituency on the ticket of Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS) political party since 2020. He is the first opposition candidate to win the Cascade constituency seat in the national assembly. [1]

Background and career

Philip Monthy qualified as a French teacher in 1997 following the completion of his studies at the Besançon, France. Following his return to Seychelles, he taught at Beau Vallon School for six months before being transferred to NYS, Port Launay in 1998 and taught French O’Level. Later, he moved to Belonie Secondary school where he taught for two years before relocating to Boston Massachusetts, USA in 2001 spending only three years there and returned to Seychelles in 2003. [2] He joined the Seychelles Tourism Academy (STA) as French teacher and rose through the ranks to the position of director of studies in 2016. He served in this office until 2018 when he left and served concurrently as assistant director of the Seychelles Institute of Distance and Open Learning (SIDOL) and quality assurance officer at the Seychelles Institute of Teacher Education (SITE) in 2019. He joined politics as a member of the opposition LDS party in 2020 and was directly elected to the 7th National Assembly of Seychelles from Cascade constituency. He is the first opposition candidate in the constituency to win the seat in the national assembly.  He serves on the International Affairs and Government Assurances committees. [5] [6] [7] [8]
