Irène Schweizer is a Swiss jazz and free improvising pianist. She was born in Schaffhausen, in 1941. She has performed and recorded numerous solo piano performances as well as performing as part of the Feminist Improvising Group, whose members include Lindsay Cooper, Maggie Nichols, Georgie Born and Sally Potter. She has also performed a series of duets with drummers Pierre Favre, Louis Moholo, Andrew Cyrille, Günter Sommer, Han Bennink, Hamid Drake, as well as in trio and quartet sessions with others, including John Tchicai, Evan Parker and Peter Kowald. With Yusef Lateef, Uli Trepte and Mani Neumeier she performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1967. One of her most enduring collaborations is with the improvising musician Rüdiger Carl.

Timothy M. Ries is an American saxophonist, composer, arranger, band leader, and music educator at the collegiate/conservatory level. Ries is in his fourteenth year as a professor of jazz studies at the University of Toronto. His universe of work as composer, arranger, and instrumentalist ranges from rock to jazz to classical to experimental to ethno to fusions of respective genres thereof. His notable works with wide popularity include The Rolling Stones Project, a culmination of jazz arrangements of music by the Stones produced on two albums, the first in 2005 and the second in 2008.
Fleuve is the second album by the Pierre Favre Ensemble, led by Swiss jazz percussionist Pierre Favre. The album was recorded in October 2005 in Switzerland and released in October 2006 by ECM. Produced by Manfred Eicher, it was Favre's first album for ECM in eleven years and marked the return of the ensemble since their 1984 debut Singing Drums, presenting a new line-up that departed from the previous incarnation's all-percussion sound. The new line-up included seven musicians and new instrumentation, including harp, double clarinet, double bass, tuba, guitar, bass guitar, soprano saxophone, and serpent. The latter instrument is rarely used in jazz.
