Philippine School in Greece (PSG), formerly the Katipunan Philippine Cultural Academy-Philippine School (KAPHILCA-PSG) [1] is a Philippine international school in Vyronas, Attica, Greece; [2] it was previously in Ambelokipi, Athens. The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) supervises the school, which operates under the Cultural Section of the Philippine embassy in Athens. [3] It is Europe's sole Philippine international school. [4]

History

It was established on September 9, 1997, and on June 29, 1999, [2] it was accredited by the Philippine Department of Education. [5] It was established after a visit of Fidel V. Ramos, former President of the Philippines to Athens in June 1997. [3]

As of 2010, about 185 students are enrolled. [2]

As a result, these countries only allow the ROC to establish representative offices instead of a fully-fledged embassy or consulate for the purpose of conducting practical bilateral relations without granting full diplomatic recognition.

Vyronas is a suburban town and a municipality in the southeastern part of the Athens agglomeration, Greece. The town is named after George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron, the famous English poet and writer, who is a national hero of Greece. Formerly part of the municipality of Athens, Vyronas was created as a community in 1933, and became a municipality in 1934. The municipality has an area of 9.204 km2.
