Phulhar is an ancient historical site in Madhubani district of Mithila region of Bihar, India. [1] [2] It is the place where Lord Rama and Goddess Sita first time met. [3] It was a flower garden of King Janaka of Mithila. A very famous temple of Goddess Bhagwati known as Girija Sthan is situated here. [4] This place is mentioned in many Hindu texts of the ancient India. [5] This place has been recognised by the Government of Bihar in 2020 as tourist centre for Hindu pilgrims. [6] [7] This place is related to Lord Rama. [8]

According to Shree Ramcharitmanas, mother Sunayana sent princess Sita to this place for worshiping Goddess Girija. There Lord Rama and Lakshmana also came to pick up some flowers for their teacher Vishwamitra to worshiping. In the garden Lord Rama and Sita saw each other for the first time in their life. [10] [11] There is a very famous pond known as Bagh Tarag, which is mentioned at Doha number 227 in Bal Kand of Ramayana composed by Tulsidas. [12]
According to legend, it is said that the princess Sita of Mithila Kingdom used to come regularly for twelve years at the Phulhar village for worshipping Goddess Girija Devi at the temple located in the campus Raj Udyan of King Janaka there. Goddess Girija Devi was considered as the Kuldevi of the King Janaka in Mithila. It is the place from where the story of the marriage of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita started. Nearby the village there is another ancient temple known as Manokamna Mandir at Kamtaul village associated with the Girija Sthan. [13] Similarly Vishwamitra Ashram at Bisaul village is believed to be the place where Lord Rama and Lakshmana stayed with their Guru Vishwamitra before taking part in the Sita Swayamvar ceremony at the court of the King Janaka.
Mithila Student Union (MSU) (Maithili : मिथिला स्टूडेंट यूनियन) is a non-political student organisation whose sole purpose is the development of Mithila and Maithils living in India. It is one of the largest student organisations in Bihar. It is a registered organization under the provisions of the Societies Registration Act, 1860 under the Indian constitution. Anup Maithil is the founder president of Mithila Student Union. They mostly keep Mithila Art Boarded Maroon Gamchha on their Sholder which is the Symbol of Passion, Love, Bravery and Courage.
Baliraajgadh is an archaeological site located at Babubarhi block in Madhubani district of Mithila region of Bihar state in India. The site is locally known as Raja Bali ka Garh. It is among the three important archeological sites Balirajgarh fort, Telhara and Nalanda in the state of Bihar in India. The site of Balirajgarh is greater than the site of Vikramshila and Vaishali but it has not yet been developed as a tourist place. Balirajgarh Fort is located on the territory of Mithila, 7 kilometers east of Kamlabalan River and 35 kilometers west of Kosi River. It has been claimed by some scholars to be the location of the ancient city of Mithila. The headquarter of the Ancient Mithila University was at the court of King Janaka in Mithila. Therefore, Balirajgadh is also the possible site of the Ancient Mithila University. It is the place from where most of the schools of the ancient Indian philosophy emerged. Nyaya Shastra, Logical sciences, Samkhya Shastra, Mimansa Shastra and many more Indian philosophy emerged from the Ancient Mithila University.
Gandiveshwar Sthan is a place mentioned in the Hindu history the Mahabharata and a religious tourist centre for Hindu pilgrims. In the Mahabharata, when the Pandavas were exiled from their kingdom to the forest by the Kauravas, Arjuna hid his Gandiva bow and all his weapons under a shami tree, which adherents believe is at this site.
Yajnavalkya Ashram was a gurukul of the Indian philosopher Yajnavalkya. It is believed that Yajnavalkya got his enlightenment here. Yajnavalkya Ashram is situated at Jagban village of Madhubani district in Mithila region of Bihar.
Kapil Ashram was a Hindu monastery of the Vedic sage Kapila. He is the author of Shankhya Shastra of Ancient Indian philosophy. It is located at Kakraul village of Rahika block in Madhubani district of Mithila region of Bihar.
Mithila Madhya Parikrama is an annual periodic journey of the central part of the ancient Mithila. It is held every year between the months of Kartik (October–November), Falgun (February–March) and Baishakh (April–May). But nowadays only Falgun (February–March) journey is famous. It is a circular journey of the central part of the Ancient Mithila. It covers a distance of 128 km circular path. It is mentioned in the epic Mithila Mahatmya which was composed in the 18th century.
Kalyaneshwar Mahadev Mandir was established by King Janaka in Mithila. The temple is also the part of Mithila Madhya Parikrama circuit. The temple is situated at Kalna village of Harlakhi block in Madhubani district. It is said that King Janaka established Shivlings in all the four directions from Janakpur. The Shivling of this temple is one of them. Since the temple is very ancient and historical, so it is very famous in the region.
Maa Janaki Janmbhoomi Mandir or Punaura Dham is a proposed grand temple of princess Sita in Mithila at her birthplace. The site is located at the Punaura Dham in Sitamarhi district of Bihar in India. The site is considered as the appearance place from where Sita was found closed in a box from a farm field while the King Janaka was ploughing the farm field. Ramayana Research Council has proposed the construction of the world's tallest 251-feet statue of Mother Sita at Sitamarhi. There is a plan to build Janaki Dham in Sitamarhi on the lines of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. A grand campus known as Janaki Dham will be built on 57 acres of land near Punauradham. It is expected that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi will laid the foundation stone of the Janaki Dham before upcoming Lok Sabha Election 2024. The foundation stone of the Janaki Janmasthali Mandir was laid by the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of Bihar on 13 December 2023 at Punauradham in Sitamarhi, the place of manifestation of Goddess Janaki.
