Picchalli Srinivas is an Indian singer, music director, theatre personality and activist, known for his works in Kannada. [1] Apart from numerous folk songs, Srinivas has sung a few film songs. For his song "Dodda Gowdara" in the movie Amasa, he won the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer in 2003-04. [2] He also served as the President of Karnataka Janapada Akademi, the State's top institution for folk and performing arts. [3] [4] [5]

Career

Srinivas started his career as folk singer in plays along with acting in theatre. His folk songs were gained recognition for him. Songs like "Ee Nada Manninalli", "Entha Chandada Nagarahavu", "Yatakke Male Hodavo", "Kattutheva Navu" and are well received by the audience. Songs written by Siddalingaiah and Kotiganahalli Ramaiah are mostly rendered by Srinivas and became popular. [6]

His film songs including "Dodda Gowdara" (Amasa), "Dharegene Dodda Vamsha" (Neela), "Elli Hodavo Kannige Kanadadavo" (Maathaad Maathaadu Mallige) are popular.

Srinivas served as the Chairperson of the Karnataka Jaanapada Akademi. [7]

Prathivadhi Bhayankara Sreenivas widely known as P. B. S. was an Indian playback singer, composer, harmonium player, Lyricist and poet known for his works in South cinema, and Bollywood. His major chunk of work has been in Kannada, Tamil and Telugu languages, though he sang many songs in Malayalam and Hindi too. Bedara Kannappa is a 1954 Indian Kannada-language Hindu mythological film directed by H. L. N. Simha and written by G. V. Iyer. The film stars Rajkumar playing the title character along with Pandari Bai, Kushala Kumari, G. V. Iyer, Sandhya and Narasimharaju in other prominent roles. The film is an adaptation of the stage play Kaalahasti Charitre written by T. N. Balakrishna for the Gubbi Veeranna Nataka Company, which was based on the folk tale of the hunter Kannappa who proves his extreme devotion to the Hindu God Shiva by gouging out both his eyes.

Doddarangegowda is an Indian poet and lyricist working in Kannada cinema. He is a retired professor of Kannada and has published a number of anthologies in Kannada. He has released several audio cassettes and CDs of his poems. Some of his noteworthy songs are Tera Yeri Ambaradaage and Notadaage Nageya Meeti of Parasangada Gendethimma, Nammoora Mandara Hoove of Aalemane, Sri Rama Bandavne of Paduvaaralli Pandavaru. He was also a Bharatiya Janata Party MLC. In 2018, he was awarded with the civilian award Padma Shri.

The 2009–10 Karnataka State Film Awards, presented by Government of Karnataka, to felicitate the best of Kannada Cinema released in the year 2009. The ceremony was held on 15 May 2012.

Betageri Krishnasharma, popularly known by his pen name Anandakanda was a writer, editor and journalist from Karnataka. His writings included different genres such as poetry, short stories, novels, dramas, metaphors, criticism, research, folklore and autobiographies.
