He was called The Phoenix of Indian Cinema. In 2008, a poll conducted by CNN-IBN listed Vishnuvardhan as the most popular star in the Kannada film industry.

Sajni,, is a 2007 Indian Kannada-language film directed by Murugesh. The film stars Dhyan, Sharmila Mandre and Anant Nag in lead roles. lead actress Sharmila Mandre makes her Kannada debut through this film. The film is produced by Sonali Nikhil and Sunanda Murali Manohar. The film is the Kannada remake of Tamil film Jodi which was released in 1999. For the first time in Kannada cinema, the film featured a soundtrack composed by A. R. Rahman with all compositions re-used from Rahman's Tamil film Jodi which in turn had re-used the tracks from Rahman's Hindi movie Doli Saja Ke Rakhna. The film was released statewide on 23 February 2007.
Hollywood is a 2002 Indian Kannada science fiction film written by Upendra and directed by Dinesh Babu. It stars Upendra in a triple role as Surendra, Upendra and US 47 along with the Australian actress Felicity Mason as Manisha and Anant Nag. The film was shot entirely in Gold Coast, Australia with few supporting actors and a monkey named Lakshmi, voiced by Ramesh Bhat. The film was also dubbed into Telugu in 2003, retaining the same title.

Narayan, Mohan, Bhavana, Ruchita Prasad, and Ananth Nag in lead roles. This is the first film in the Saar series directed by Babu and was released on 23 March 2001 and received generally positive reviews from the critics and turned out to be box-office hit.

A remake of the Telugu film Chitram (2000), directed by Teja, the film stars Prasad and newcomer Rekha Vedavyas with Ananth Nag in a supporting role. The film had musical score by Gurukiran, which was well received. The film, upon release, was well received and declared a silver jubilee at the box office.

In a career spanning over 5 decades, he has appeared in over 270 films. After having had a successful theatre career, he made his debut in P. V. Nanjaraja Urs' Kannada film Sankalpa, and Shyam Benegal's Dakhani film Ankur, with the former seeing theatrical release first, in 1973, and won multiple awards at the 1972–73 Karnataka State Film Awards. In G. V. Iyer's 1975 film Hamsageethe, he played the role of Bhairavi Venkatasubbiah, a performance that won critical praise, and the film was awarded the Best Feature Film in Kannada at the 23rd National Film Awards.
Ayushman Bhava is a 2019 Indian Kannada-language action drama film directed by P. Vasu and produced by B. S. Dwarakish and Yogish Dwarakish Bunggale, co-produced by Alankar Pandian. The film stars Shiva Rajkumar, Ananth Nag, Rachita Ram, and Prabhu along with Nidhi Subbaiah in a special appearance. The music was composed by Gurukiran. The cinematography and editing were handled by PKH Das and Gowtham Raju respectively.
