Pietro Vitalini (born 29 June 1967) is an Italian former alpine skier who competed in the 1994 Winter Olympics. [1] Vitalini finished on the podium in FIS World Cup events five times in his career. [2]
Together with Kristian Ghedina, Peter Runggaldier, Werner Perathoner and Alessandro Fattori, he helped to bring out Italian Alpine skiing, traditionally more competitive in technical specialties, even in downhill and super-giant races. The Italian speed team, nicknamed Italjet, [3] succeeded in the nineties in expressing itself at the high levels of the well-known Austrian and Swiss national teams.
Downhill is a form of alpine skiing competition. Whereas the other alpine skiing events emphasize turning and technique, downhill emphasizes "the six components of technique, courage, speed, risk, physical condition and judgement", according to the FIS "International Ski Competition Rules (ICR)". Speeds of up to 130 km/h (81 mph) are common in international competition. Athletes must have an aerodynamically efficient tuck position to minimize drag and increase speed.
Ivica Kostelić is a Croatian former alpine ski racer. He specialized in slalom and combined, but was also one of the few alpine World Cup ski racers able to score points in all disciplines. He is the brother of skiing champion Janica Kostelić. In his career he was coached by his father Ante Kostelić, as well as by Kristian Ghedina and Tomislav Krstičević.

Franz Heinzer is a former alpine ski racer, who specialized in downhill. He was World Cup champion in downhill three consecutive seasons, second only to Franz Klammer. He won a total of 15 World Cup downhill races, fourth behind Klammer (25), Peter Müller (19) and Stephan Eberharter (18). Fill won the World Cup season title in downhill in 2016 and in 2017, and the combined title in 2018.
Werner Perathoner is an Italian former Alpine skier, who specialized in downhill and super-G disciplines.
Peter Runggaldier is an Italian former Alpine skier, who specialized in downhill and super-G disciplines. He competed at the 1994 Winter Olympics and the 1998 Winter Olympics.
