Evans Zangazanga popularly known as Piksy is a Malawian musician. [1] [2] [3] In 2015, he was nominated for the Best Male Southern Africa category in Kora Awards. He was the Brand Ambassador for Airtel for over 2 years commencing on 1 August 2012 and through 30 November 2015. [4]

He has worked with several organisations such as National Youth Council, PSI Malawi, Health Policy Project with the USAID, NFPA and the YONECO Malawi to support advocacy programmes as well as to compose and produce theme songs. [5]

Background

Early life

Zangazanga was born on 9 June, 1986 in Blantyre. He started his career in 2004 while still at secondary school and made his mark in 2008 with his hit Pantima (Sendeza) which he was featured Nthumwi Nicodemus. [6] [7] Zangazanga was in a music group called Atumwi. His first studio album titled "Atumwi" had hit songs such as Zatheka, Pamudzi, Moseliwa, Chipwirikiti and Mzanga. [8]

Skeffa Chimoto is a Malawian musician and a member of the "Real Sounds" band. His debut sophomore album "Nabola Moyo " was well received and critically acclaimed, topping music charts all over Malawi. His other album ‘Ndife Amodzi’ has one of the best tracks, the kind that the music industry has been craving for in ‘Ndakusowa’, ‘Sungamchose’, title track ‘Ndife Amodzi’ and ‘Ulendo’. He has collaborated with various artists such as Dalisoul from Zambia, Billy Kaunda, Allelluya Band and Katelele Ching'oma.

Kelvin Khuzumba popularly known as Nesnes is a Malawian rnb artist and song writer. He became popular after releasing songs such as Chidodo and It’s not fair in early 2010s. He featured Conel Chyoon and Lap T in the album which has songs like Chibwelele, Kadya Ubwelele, Sionse, Ndinjoye and Mundilanditse.

Kwathu Drama Group is a Malawian oldest drama group mainly composed of Eric Mabedi and John Nyanga, who died in 2021, that started in 1980. Mabedi died in 2022 after suffering from severe kidney damage. In 2020, the ensemble blamed the hospitality industry of Malawi for not supporting, improving and upgrading the status of stage performances in the country. In 2013, Kwathu Drama took campaigns against inequality in the country about the LGBQ.

Hilda Ulola, popularly known as Hilco, is a Malawian Afro pop singer. She was born on 14 February 1995 in a family of six children in Blantyre. She started doing music when she was young and became more active in music in 2015 and managed to release 4 songs in that year such as Ekizakitile, Chekecheke, Ndalema and Khofotabo (comfortable).

Chiyanjano Muheziwa popularly known as Annie Matumbi, and sometimes Nyakwawa, is a Malawian veteran musician, tv presenter, actor and politician. In 2017, Matumbi claimed he was the father of Malawi urban music. In 2018, Matumbi stood in a winning a parliamentary seat in 2019's general election under Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Candidate for Lilongwe City South West constituency.

Dan Lufani, best known as Dan Lu, and sometimes written as Dan Lufan, is a Malawian Afro-pop singer and songwriter. In 2011, he was awarded as best Afro pop artist of the year in Malawi Music Awards. In 2016, he was nominated in best R&B/Afro-pop Act along with other artists such as Theo Thomson and Kell Kay.

Grace Chinga Moffat or simply Grace Chinga, was a Malawian gospel singer, songwriter and vocalist. She released her debut studio album titled Uleke (Stop) in 2004 that had a hit song titled Thandizo Langa which made her gain national recognition. In 2009, Chinga released her third studio album titled Udzayimba Nyimbo before releasing the fourth studio album titled Esther in 2016.

Aubrey Ghambi, best known as Suffix, is a Malawian gospel rapper and songwriter. In 2020, he won a UMP Award in best gospel act. In 2018, his album titled "Before I Sleep" won the category Album of the Year in UMP Awards and he was nominated as Best Hip Hop Artist as well as Best Urban Gospel. In 2016, was nominated for the same category and award.

Fredo Penjani Kamlepo Kalua, best known as Fredokiss, is a Malawian rapper and songwriter. In 2020, he was nominated in UMP Award in Best Hip Hop Act and his music video "Dadada" won Music Video of the Year. In 2017, he won three categories namely, Artist of the Year, Best rapper and Best Live Act.

Chiku Malinga Chitsundi Banda, best known as Malinga Mafia, is a Malawian dancehall artist and songwriter. In 2018, he won a Nyasa Music Award as Best Dancehall artist of the year. His collaboration with Hyphen titled Tsidya lina won the Best collaboration of the year 2018. In 2017, he won the Best Music Video in Nyasa Music Awards. In 2016, he was awarded a UMP Award for Album of the Year as well as Best Reggae/Dancehall Act in years 2017 and 2018.

Nyasa Music Awards are Malawian award show that was established in early 2017 to celebrate entertainers and other minorities in music, fashion and philanthropy. The annual presentation event that takes place in major cities of the country features performances by artists and they are one of the major Malawi's music industry awards. The event recognizes Malawian music from all genres, including traditional, soul, and gospel. Shukuran Mwachumu better known by his stage name Janta, is a Malawian Afro Pop artist. In 2015, his song titled Wangongole won a Nyasa Music Award in Best Song of the Year category. In 2019, his music video won Best video of the year in UMP Awards.

Noel Chikoleka better known by his stage name Phyzix, is a Malawian musician, rapper, songwriter and activist. He gained national recognition in 2006 when he released the song titled "Cholapitsa" (boogeyman) which sold over 40, 000 copies national wide with a month and has released over albums. In 2020, he won a UMP Award in Best Hip Hop artist of the year.
