History

In September 2013, Matthieu Aubry, Piwik founder (now Matomo), and Maciej Zawadziński, the CEO of Clearcode, founded Piwik PRO. It provided support and features for the open-source Piwik. In June 2016, Clearcode became the sole owner of Piwik PRO. [8] [9] The same year Piwik PRO Analytics Suite was created.

In February, 2017, Tim Schumacher, [10] co-founder and former CEO of Sedo.com, along with Warsaw Equity Group (WEG), [11] a Polish private equity firm, invested $2 million in Piwik PRO. [12]

In 2018 Consent Manager was added to the Piwik PRO Analytics Suite for GDPR-compliant consent collection and management. The module was then developed to enable compliance with such legal acts such as TTDSG, LGPD, CCPA and HIPAA. [13] [14]

In 2018 Piwik PRO joined the EIT Digital Accelerator, [15] a Knowledge and Innovation Community of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology.

In 2020 Piwik PRO's connection to Clearcode ended. In 2021 Piwik PRO Core, a free version of Piwik PRO Analytics Suite, was released. [16]

In 2023, Maciej Zawadziński resigned as CEO, and Piotr Korzeniowski took over his position. The same year, Brian Clifton, Google's former Head of Web Analytics for Europe, joined Piwik PRO as an advisor. [17]

In July 2023, Piwik PRO introduced a new and rebuilt CDP module. [18]

In October 2023, Piwik PRO and Cookie Information merged. The deal is backed by Kirk Kapital, Piwik PRO’s founder, the management team, selected employees at Piwik PRO, and the Export and Investment Fund of Denmark. [19] [20] [21]
