Production was handled by Ant Banks, Black C of RBL Posse, Cyrus Esteban, Gigolo G, J-Mack, JT the Bigga Figga, Lil' Fly, T.C., and Franky J, who also served as executive producer. The album features guest appearances from fellow San Francisco-based rappers JT the Bigga Figga, Lil' Fly and Seff tha Gaffla.
4 Tha Hard Way is the fourth album by the West Coast hip hop artist Rappin' 4-Tay, released by Noo Trybe Records in 1997. Featuring production from Bay Area producer Ant Banks, as well as guest appearances from the likes of Rick James, E-40 and Master P, the entire album is dedicated to the memory of Tupac Shakur. The album debuted on the Billboard 200 chart at number 169, with 7,000 copies sold in the first week. Upon the album's release, Rappin' 4-Tay considered 4 Tha Hard Way his best album despite its surprisingly low sales, with his manager blaming the label for changing the release date and not promoting the album.

The album was a commercial failure and only made it to #85 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, causing MCA to drop her from the label.

"I'll Be Around" is the second single released from American rapper Rappin' 4-Tay's second album, Don't Fight the Feelin' (1994). The song both samples the music and retains the original chorus of the Spinners' song of the same name, though Rappin' 4-Tay replaced the song's original lyrics with his own. The Spinners were credited as featured artists, and songwriters Thom Bell and Phil Hurtt were both given writing credits.
"Ain't No Playa (Playaz Shit)" (Also known by its censored title "Ain't No Playa Like...") is the lead single released from Rappin' 4-Tay's third album, Off Parole. The song's instrumentation was written and performed by Shannon Lacy and produced by Stan "G-Man Stan" Keith and featured rapper/singer Passion performing the song's chorus, which reinterpreted The Four Tops 1973 hit "Ain't No Woman (Like the One I've Got)".
