Podcast: The Ride is an audio podcast hosted by Scott Gairdner, Mike Carlson, and Jason Sheridan in which they discuss theme parks, worldwide themed entertainment, as well as its ephemera and unique subcultures. The podcast launched in October 2017 and is produced by the Forever Dog Podcast Network. [1] In 2018 the show launched a Patreon called the Second Gate where subscribers get three additional episodes per month. [2] In 2022, an additional tier was launched called Club 3 offering another monthly episode with the topic suggested and then selected by subscribers. [3]
Podcast: The Ride has been listed as a top recommendation from Wired [4] , GQ [5] [6] , Uproxx [7] , Paste [8] , and Vulture [9] , receiving praise for its comedic style and in-depth explorations of niche aspects of themed entertainment. AV Club lauded the shows ability to entertain even when discussing mundane topics such as the Mickey & Friends Parking Structure. [10] American cartoonist Reuben Bolling (real name Ken Fisher) recommended the podcast in an article for Boing Boing calling it a "great comedy/theme park podcast" and particularly highlighting the episode on Holidomes. [11] Chicago Reader highlighted the show as an example of the rise of bingeable podcasts, citing the 2018 series The City Walk Saga, as an example of how listeners become obsessed to the point of filling their day with hours of podcast listening. [12]
Beyond the show itself, the creators have also been invited to comment on major news in the world of themed entertainment such as the opening of Casa Bonita in Denver [13] and the enduring legacy of Jaws: The Ride. [14] They have also been recognized for their contributions to the zeitgeist, such as the original song Jump, Jump Payakan, created for the Feliz Na'vidad series, which concept artist Constantine Sekeris used to highlight the popularity of the creature following the release of Avatar: The Way of Water.
