Poker Central is a website and service which focuses on poker news, events, live streaming and hosting poker content. It operates PokerGO an online paid subscription channel and streaming service which features multiple poker shows, cash games and tournaments. [1]

History

Poker Central was founded by poker player and entrepreneur, Cary Katz. He founded and is part owner of Conservative Review TV (CRTV) which is part owner of Poker Central. Other part owners and investors include Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth and Antonio Esfandiari. The website and service was launched on October 1, 2015. [2]

In 2018, Katz sued CRTV, which he is part owner, for alleged failures to repay a $20 million loan Katz had given the company earlier. [3] [4] In May of that year, Poker Central opened the PokerGO Studio at the ARIA Resort and Casino. This poker studio is a 10,000 square-foot space built to host live poker events distributed on the poker streaming service, PokerGO. Notable poker tournaments and cash games held at the PokerGO Studio include the Super High Roller Bowl, Poker Masters, U.S. Poker Open, Poker After Dark and more. The PokerGO Studio is open to the public on an event-by-event basis. [5]

In 2020, Poker Central acquire the assets and brand of High Stakes Poker . [6] In the same year, Poker Central extended a partnership with NBC Sports which began in 2017 and was extended until 2022. [7] [8] [9]

partypoker is an online poker card room. Launched in 2001 by PartyGaming, the site has had up to 80,000 players logged-in and was the largest online card room until 2006. In 2011 PartyGaming merged with bwin to form Bwin.Party Digital Entertainment. As of 2017, it remains among the largest online poker card rooms. The site was endorsed by Mike Sexton, the former host of the World Poker Tour television show. The domain partypoker.com attracted at least 3.6 million visitors annually by 2008 according to a Compete.com study. In 2016, after a protracted bidding process between 888 Holdings and GVC Holdings, Bwin.Party Digital Entertainment accepted GVC Holdings' bid for £1.1 billion. Today, the site is run by GVC Holdings and is available in 14 different languages. <i>High Stakes Poker</i> American cash game poker television show

High Stakes Poker is an American cash game poker television program. The poker variant played on the show is no limit Texas hold 'em. The first four seasons ran from January 16, 2006 to December 17, 2007 on GSN. The next three seasons ran from March 1, 2009 to May 21, 2011, and was simulcast in 3DTV on N3D. The show was revived on December 16, 2020 on PokerGO.

Poker television programs had been extremely popular, especially in North America and Europe, following the poker boom. This has especially become the case since the invention of the "pocket cam" in 1997, which allows viewers at home to see each player's hole cards. However, viewership has been declining dramatically in recent years, due to laws that restricted online play in the United States.

Poker After Dark is an hour-long poker television program that originally aired on NBC, premiering on January 1, 2007. The series was canceled on December 3, 2011, following the "Black Friday" criminal case, which involved major sponsor Full Tilt Poker as one of the defendants. The show rebooted on August 14, 2017, with appearances from Tom Dwan, Daniel Negreanu, Antonio Esfandiari. Poker After Dark episodes are now filmed exclusively at the PokerGO Studio at ARIA Resort and Casino, and distributed on video streaming service PokerGO.

It was held from inside the PokerGO Studio at Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The series took place from July 6–14, 2021, with eight scheduled events culminating in a $100,000 No-Limit Hold'em tournament. Each final table was streamed on PokerGO.

The 2023 PokerGO Cup was the third iteration of the PokerGO Cup, a series of high-stakes poker tournaments as part of the PokerGO Tour. It was held from inside the PokerGO Studio at Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The series took place from January 11-20, 2023, with eight scheduled events culminating in a $50,000 No-Limit Hold'em tournament.
