Fantasia International Film Festival is a genre film festival that has been based mainly in Montreal since its founding in 1996. It focuses on niche, low budget movies in various genres, from horror to sci-fi. Regularly held in July/August, by 2016 its annual audience had already surpassed 100,000 viewers and outgrown even the Montreal World Film Festival.

Brown is a partner at XYZ Films, and Variety credits Twitch Film as helping to popularize the production company's films.
Marianne is a 2011 Swedish horror film, written and directed by Filip Tegstedt, that premiered at the 2011 Fantasia International Film Festival on 2 August 2011. Thomas Hedengran plays a father who is plagued by guilt over the death of his wife.
Martin Villeneuve is a Canadian screenwriter, producer, director, actor, and art director. He was nominated at the Canadian Screen Award in 2013 for Best Adapted Screenplay, for Mars et Avril, his feature film debut. He is also known for The 12 Tasks of Imelda, his second feature film released in 2022, in which he portrays his own grandmother, and for his animated series Red Ketchup premiering in 2023. Villeneuve previously worked for Cirque du Soleil as an artistic director for commercials and films.
Mohawk is a 2017 American survival action-horror film directed by Ted Geoghegan, co-written by Geoghegan and novelist Grady Hendrix, and starring Kaniehtiio Horn, Ezra Buzzington, Noah Segan, and professional wrestler Jonathan "Brodie Lee" Huber in the only feature film appearance he made before his death.
Cameron Macgowan, is a Canadian writer, director, and producer. His first feature film as a Writer/Director Red Letter Day premiered at the Cinequest Film Festival in 2019. The film was a hit on the international genre film festival circuit with screenings at London FrightFest Film Festival, Screamfest Horror Film Festival, Fantaspoa, Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival and more. The film received positive critical attention, including Screen Anarchy saying "It plays like a modern mash-up of David Cronenberg's Shivers (film) and Kinji Fukasaku's Battle Royale (film)." and renowned English journalist Kim Newman saying "A terrific premise, ferociously well worked out, and an excellent performance from Dawn Van de Schoot as an unwilling tiger mommy.".
The Borsos Competition is the main awards program for Canadian feature films screening at the annual Whistler Film Festival. Introduced for the first time in 2004, the juried competition presents six awards annually to honour films, actors, screenplays, directors, cinematographers and editors in Canadian cinema. Initially, only films that were having their world premieres at Whistler were eligible for the competition, although this requirement was soon dropped as the festival had difficulty attracting entrants who were willing to forego larger film festivals such as TIFF or the FNC, and thereafter films selected for competition only had to be a regional premiere within the Western Canada region.
The ShortWork Awards are annual film awards, presented by the Whistler Film Festival to honour the best short films screened at the festival.

The Feast is a 2021 Welsh folk horror film directed by Lee Haven Jones from a screenplay by producer Roger Williams. Niagara is a Canadian comedy-drama film, directed by Guillaume Lambert and released in 2022. The film centres on three estranged brothers in their 50s — Victor-Hugo, Alain and Léo-Louis Lamothe — who must reunite to undertake a road trip to Niagara Falls after their father Léopold unexpectedly dies of a heart attack while trying to participate in an ice bucket challenge.
Moloch is a 2022 Dutch folk horror film directed by Nico van den Brink, starring Sallie Harmsen and Alexandre Willaume.
David Schuurman is a Canadian cinematographer. He is most noted for his work on the film Polaris, for which he won the Borsos Competition award for Best Cinematography in a Borsos Competition film at the 2022 Whistler Film Festival.
