Phillip Borsos was an Australian-born Canadian film director, producer, and screenwriter. A four-time Canadian Film Award and Genie Award winner and an Academy Award nominee, he was one of the major figures of Canadian and British Columbian filmmaking during the 1980s, earning critical acclaim and accolades at a time when Canadian filmmakers were still struggling to gain attention outside of North America.
The Whistler Film Festival (WFF) is an annual film festival held in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada. Established in 2001, the festival is held the first weekend of December and includes juried competitive sections, the Borsos Awards, and the Pandora Audience Award. A conference for the Canadian film industry, known as the Whistler Summit, is organised in connection with the film festival.
Chloé Leriche is a Canadian film director from Montreal, Quebec. Her debut feature film, Before the Streets , received six Canadian Screen Award nominations at the 5th Canadian Screen Awards in 2017, including Best Picture and a nod for Leriche as Best Director.
Katherine Jerkovic is a Canadian film director. Her debut feature film, Roads in February , won the Toronto International Film Festival Award for Best Canadian First Feature Film at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival. Her second feature, titled Coyote, also opened at TIFF in 2022 and has received several awards.
The Audience Award is an annual award given by the Whistler Film Festival to the most popular film voted by audiences for Best Picture.
The Whistler Film Festival Documentary Award is an annual juried award, given by the Whistler Film Festival to the film selected as the year's best documentary film in the festival program.
The ShortWork Awards are annual film awards, presented by the Whistler Film Festival to honour the best short films screened at the festival.
Drinkwater is a 2021 Canadian coming-of-age comedy film, directed by Stephen Campanelli. The film stars Daniel Doheny as Mike Drinkwater, a teenager living in Penticton, British Columbia, with his father Hank ; an outsider because his father does not hold down a steady job and instead lives solely off the proceeds of insurance fraud schemes, Mike finds his life transformed when he befriends Wallace, a young woman who moves into the house next door.
Nouveau Québec is a Canadian drama film, directed by Sarah Fortin and released in 2021. The film stars Christine Beaulieu and Jean-Sébastien Courchesne as Sophie and Mathieu, a couple whose relationship is tested by their differing reactions to being exposed to First Nations culture while visiting the remote northern town of Schefferville, Quebec.
Grayson Moore is a Canadian screenwriter and filmmaker, most noted as writer and co-director of the 2017 film Cardinals.
Coyote is a Canadian drama film, directed by Katherine Jerkovic and released in 2022. The film stars Jorge Martinez Colorado as Camilo, a Mexican immigrant to Canada who is rebuilding his life as a chef in La Malbaie, Quebec, who finds his plan complicated when his adult daughter Tania shows up needing his help to care for her son while she enters recovery for her drug addiction problems.
Rodeo is a 2022 Canadian drama film, directed and co-written by Joëlle Desjardins Paquette. The film stars Maxime Le Flaguais as Serge, a truck driver who takes his young daughter Lily on a cross-Canada road trip to attend a truck rodeo in Alberta, against the context of a dispute with his ex-wife over custody of her.
Atikamekw Suns is a 2023 Canadian drama film, written, produced, and directed by Chloé Leriche. The film centres on the true story of five youths from the Atikamekw First Nation community of Manawan who were found dead in a truck in the nearby river in 1977, with police investigation remaining inconclusive to this day about whether the truck driving into the river was a simple accident or a racially-motivated attack.
Finality of Dusk is a 2023 Canadian post-apocalyptic science fiction film directed by Madison Thomas, from a screenplay by Thomas and Katarina Ziervogel. Starring Marika Sila, Cherrel Holder, Chris Dodd, and Meegwun Fairbrother, the film follows Ishkode (Sila) and Niife (Holder), who team up to survive in a world where the air has become too toxic for humans to breathe, requiring people to wear specialized breathing helmets at all times, all the while being pursued by Odin (Dodd), a deaf man who is on a mission to steal their helmets.
The Burning Season is a 2023 Canadian drama film, directed by Sean Garrity. The film stars Sara Canning, Jonas Chernick, Joe Pingue and Tanisha Thammavongsa. The screenplay, written by Chernick and Diana Frances, won the award for best Canadian screenplay at the 2023 Whistler Film Festival, where it had its world premiere.
Altar Boy is a 2021 Canadian coming-of-age drama film, directed by Serville Poblete. The film stars Mark Bacolcol as Daniel Garcia, a Filipino Canadian teenager who is struggling to chart his own independent course in life against the wishes of his domineering, deeply religious mother Rose.
Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story is a 2024 Canadian documentary film, directed by Michael Mabbott and Lucah Rosenberg-Lee. The film is a portrait of Jackie Shane, the pioneering transgender singer who was a prominent figure in the Toronto music scene in the 1960s before virtually disappearing from public life after 1971.

She Talks to Strangers is a Canadian comedy-drama film, written and directed by Bruce Sweeney and released in 2023. The film stars Camille Sullivan as Leslie, a woman who has been separated for a number of years but not legally divorced from her husband Keith ; one day, however, Keith returns to hide out in her basement from people to whom he owes money, but with the secret intention to reestablish his ownership rights in the home so that he can make quick money by forcing her to sell it and give him half the money, thus forcing Leslie to team up with her mother Staci, with whom she also has a tense and difficult relationship, to figure out how to get rid of him.
