The Politics of Taiyuan in Shanxi province in the People's Republic of China is structured in a dual party-government system like all other governing institutions in mainland China.

The Mayor of Taiyuan is the highest-ranking official in the People's Government of Taiyuan or Taiyuan Municipal Government. However, in the city's dual party-government governing system, the Mayor has less power than the Taiyuan Municipal Chinese Communist Party Committee Secretary, colloquially termed the "CCP Party Chief of Taiyuan" or "Communist Party Secretary of Taiyuan".

History

On April 12, 2014, Shen Weichen was being investigated by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) for "serious violations of laws and regulations". [1]

On August 23, 2014, Chen Chuanping was being investigated by the CCDI for "serious violations of laws and regulations". [2]

The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) is the highest internal control institution of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), tasked with enforcing internal rules and regulations and combating corruption and malfeasance in the party. Since the vast majority of officials at all levels of government are also Communist Party members, the commission is in practice the top anti-corruption body in China.

Jin Daoming is a former Chinese politician who spent his career in Beijing and Shanxi province. Of Manchu descent, Jin worked for China's top anti-corruption body between 1993 and 2006. He was then transferred to work in Taiyuan as the head of the provincial anti-corruption agency and later, Deputy Party Secretary of Shanxi province. Jin was placed under investigation by the same agency he once worked for on suspicion of corruption in 2014. He was sentenced to life in prison.

Shen Weichen is a former Chinese politician from Shanxi province. During his career he served as the Communist Party Secretary of the city of Jinzhong in Shanxi province, the director of propaganda of Shanxi province, and the Party Secretary of Taiyuan, the provincial capital. In September 2010 Shen was transferred to work for the Central Propaganda Department of the Communist Party under Liu Yunshan.

Ling Zhengce is a former Chinese politician from Shanxi province. From 2008 to 2014 Ling served as the vice-chairman of the Shanxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and prior to that the director of Shanxi Development and Reform Commission. Alongside Ling Jihua, he was removed from office in 2014 and charged with corruption, bribery, and graft. Ling Zhengce was then sentenced to twelve and a half years in prison.

Han Xiancong is a former Chinese politician from Anhui province. He was best known for his term as the Communist Party Secretary of the cities of Anqing and Chuzhou. From 2013 to 2014 he served as the vice-chairman of the Anhui provincial People's Political Consultative Conference, a largely ceremonial legislative consultation body. He was later investigated for corruption and indicted on criminal charges of bribery.

Chen Chuanping is a former Chinese politician and businessman. Chen spent 26 years in state-owned Taiyuan Iron & Steel (Group) Co. Ltd, he served as the president of Taiyuan Iron & Steel (Group) Co. Ltd. from 2001 to 2008. He served as the Communist Party Secretary of Taiyuan between 2010 and 2014. Alongside Ling Jihua, Bai Yun, and others, he was removed from office in August 2014 for corruption, tried on charges of bribery, and sentenced to six years in prison.

Ren Runhou was a Chinese business executive and politician from Shanxi Province. He was the chief executive of Lu'an Group, a state-owned coal production company based in Shanxi, for over ten years beginning in June 2000. He became the Vice Governor of Shanxi in January 2011.

Liu Suiji is a former Chinese politician and police officer from Shanxi Province. Liu served as the Secretary of the Taiyuan Political and Legislative Affairs Committee (Zhengfawei), in addition to being the provincial capital's police chief. In August 2014 Liu was placed under investigation by the Communist Party's anti-corruption agency.

Feng Lixiang is a Chinese politician from Shanxi who served as the Communist Party Secretary of Datong from 2008 to 2014. In 2014, he was investigated for corruption, expelled from the Communist Party, and indicted on bribery charges.

Liang Bin is a former Chinese politician from Shanxi province. He spent most of his career working in his home province, successively serving as the Party Secretary of the cities of Shuozhou and Xinzhou, before being transferred to Hebei province in June 2008 to head the party's provincial Organization Department. Liang was investigated by the Chinese Communist Party's anti-graft agency in November 2014.

Yang Xiaobo is a former Chinese politician from Shanxi province who served as mayor of the county-level city of Gaoping. She was investigated by the Communist Party of China's anti-corruption agency in April 2014, then she was removed from office and expelled from the party in November 2014.

Qin Jianxiao is a former Chinese politician from Shanxi. During his career he has served as the Mayor of Gaoping, the Communist Party Secretary of Qinshui County, and the Party Secretary of Zezhou County. In September 2014, Qin was placed under investigation by the Communist Party's anti-corruption agency; he was removed from office and expelled from the party in November 2014.

Dong Hongyun is a former Chinese politician from Shanxi province. He was investigated by the Chinese Communist Party's anti-graft agency in December 2014. Previously he served as the Communist Party Secretary of Xinzhou and before that, mayor of Lüliang.
